I will be back to making things normal here very soon. I'm looking at 2 weeks....depending on how my surgery goes. The Furum's mainpage is toast...lol....got to start from scratch again. I may leave the forum part of it as is for now and put that money elsewhere into the site (such as the prize packs for the contests). It was costing about $60 a month to host the forum ad free because of the traffic. The traffic has slowed down alot so it will cost less. Once I see what range it is in, I will decide then.
My stint of being gone just knocked my plans in the head and put so much on hold....but things will be back to normal soon...lol. Remember, I am an old woman (or at least feel like it) and I'm the worlds slowest at doing anything...lol.
JT suggested that I leave the forum as The Furum and start with a new domain name for the main site. I dunno. I think my renewal comes up on that in March so we'll see. So many good pet site names are already taken. I do want to focus more on dogs, cats, horses, and goats as that seems to be the bulk of animals owned here.
I am also considering adding an editor (one of you?) to the site. Someone who can go in and change things on the site as needed. It would need to be someone who had HTML experience and is familiar with editing a website. It would be strictly voluntary. I will pay for everything and get it set up and then we could both go in and change things as needed. Just a thought....plus it would keep things updated more when I get lost in my other duties.
I have also thought about doing an online "dog show" to help attract more members. It would be a HUGE photo contest. Entry fee of around $5 and the winner gets a large cash prize (determined by the number of entrants). This contest would take a few months (to get the word out and give people time to enter and such). What are your thoughts on that? I would employ a panel of judges (who are not affiliated with The Furum), who are also breeders and/or veterinarians, or those who have judged other shows to make the winning decision. That way it is not baised in any way. I think it would be a great way to get more members here.

Don't worry about us, you just take care of you and your family and get to feeling better. We have a great group here and we just want you all well. As long as we have this great place to post on, we are all content. I think the dog show sounds fun.
I can't wait to see al the changes. And as for the photo contest...I will win. LMAO!!!!! Just joking. I just figured with two Great Danes I will get some great puppy pics and full grown pics. I can't wait for y'all to see him. The differences between him and Oscar are huge. Literally!!!
If breeders and show type judges will be to judge, will it deter those of us that have mixed breeds from joining? Will it be open to all, both mixed and purebred? Just questions I have that some others may too.
That sounds good to me. I once was on that end of the spectrum, being one of the judging of a tie breaker, because I was one of the people supplying a gift, so I was a sponsor. LOL I think it would be a cool contest. You know me, I am a part of this one we have now. I think we should keep our Furum name too, even though I hated that name at first, LOL Its grown on me.
Ohhh, If we were to have enough contestants, it might be worth it to start a calendar of our pets. I belong to a groupd thats been doing this for about 5 years now. We have a new one in the making, its a 2 year calendar because we have that many poodle owners for each new month.
Can't wait to see the changes. I have some web site experiance but my HTML is a little rough, but something I can work on. I am an owner of a web site that is baised on HTML but it's been awhile since I have played with it. I am thinking about digging the site up and bringing it back to life. It's a 18+ web site, in other words "anything goes" thats the name of it. I figure everyone here could use it as well cause we all know at times we all have some bad minds plus we al have some great jokes to tell!
