If I didn't have dogs.....

1) I could walk around safely barefoot in the dark;
2) My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and
laminated;
3) All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars
would be free of dog
hair;
4) When the doorbell rang, it wouldn't sound like the
SPCA kennels;
5) When the doorbell rang, I could get to the door
without wading thru four
or five dog bodies who beat me there;
6) I could sit how I wanted to on the couch without
taking into
consideration where several little furbodies would
need to get;
7) I would not have strange presents under my
tree....like dog bones,
stuffed animals and have to answer to people why I
wrap them up;
8) I would not be on a first name basis with a vet;
9) Most used words in my vocabulary would not be:
potty, outside, sit, down,
come, no, and leave him/her ALONE;
10) My house would not be cordoned off into zones with
baby gates;
11) My purse would not contain things like poop pick
up bags and dog treats;
12) I would no longer have to spell the world B-A-L-L
and F-R-I-S-B-E-E;
13) I would not buy weird things to stuff into
"kongs", or have to explain
why I'm buying them, or what a "kong" is;
14) I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as
outside;
15) I would not look strangely at people who think
having their ONE dog ties
them down too much;
16) I would not have to answer the question why do I
have so many dogs from
people who will never have the joy in their life of
knowing they are loved
unconditionally by something as close to an angel as
they will ever get. Who
else has a friend who considers you the MOST important
thing in the whole
wide world all the time.

Those are so true...

Life though would not be complete without my babies. This morning as I was chasing Murphy through the house trying to get my bra back I was wondering why I got another dog. But now as he sleeps curled around my feet I wouldn't give him back for the world.

haha those are great! I've just been saying that same sentence to myself these past few days. It always ends in, 'I'd never survive'..but..I am reaching the most inconvenient time to have my beautiful lil babies! Finishing my time in the great USNavy this month, and will be moving from Georgia up to Michigan. Man, what a job it's been planning everything around my two monsters.

My mom is flying down to drive back up north with me, because it would be extremely difficult to do alone. Just walking them for potty time every few hours would be horrendous, and entirely too risky to do with just me. That horror story about the people losing their dog at the rest stop really freaked me out, so I need one person per dog in order to minimize any chance of one of them getting away. I bought new harnesses, they each have two leashes (in case what? one breaks? haha man i'm a paranoid freak).. blankets.. so much! I even mailed/shipped everything I can't fit into a suitcase to give them lots of room in the back of the SUV, so they're comfortable.

Any suggestions from anyone would be welcome on how else to make sure this trip goes as smooth as possible. I'm sure I've not thought of everything!

Ok..sorry to hijack the thread, dusty, those really were great, lol. And btw, because of you and your frenchies... if ever I decide to get a third, it will be a frenchie!

glad to see you back dook !! its great that you have someone with you on your move. that would be a long trip to go alone. i am not a traveler so i cant give many tips. just maybe to have a cell phone with you. if you know people in between , you could let them know youre traveling in case you need help along the way. take a road map. watch your gas gauge closely. take bottled water , tools and an extra radiator hose in case you overheat in the middle of nowhere and make sure you have a good spare tire and a jack lol . also , aspirin and a first aide kit. hopefully others can think of some more stuff. i hope you have a safe trip. and come back more often before you go !

Make sure that if you have to stop along the way that you're at Pet Friendly hotels.  We bought a book that listed some in every state so we'd have an idea when we drove from GA to Ks and from KS to MD.  Our girls did great, slept the whole drive, I know they say stop every couple of hours, but with them knocked out we knew they'd be fine....Plus they already knew how to hold it....  That was when we had Tiki, course she was a whiner in the kennel so we had to get some calmative pills so she wouldn't yip the whole time.

Geez Dusty, for someone who says they dont make many trips, you sure thought of a lot that I hadn't come up with ;) Thanks to you and lil ex for sharing your experiences/ideas, I appreciate it. I was worried about the hotel thing, too, but was gonna 'wing it'. I like your idea better, I'll go get a book/do some google searches and get it planned out. My way I'd probably end up having me, mom and the two dogs sleeping the back of the 4Runner..freezing! Thanks again ;)
