Yesterday Jason brought home two Bengal cats, male and female about 4 years old, he even got their papers. They were a breeding pair. Neither are fixed. The female looks like an Ocicat and the male is absolutly gorgous. However the male has been hiding under the tv stand and he just keeps peeing and laying in it. But he is eating and he isnt mean or anything just a little nervous in his new surrondings. The female is awesome, such a sweet personality and she isnt scared at all about being in a new place. The male's name is Romeo, the female is Comet (I think i should change it to Juliet)
I dont know why Jason brought home a breeding pair, i think he felt bad for the cats, the previous owner is going through a nasty divorce and I guess she had to find them a home asap or take them to the pound.
After Jason brought them home yesterday, i was petting Comet and she was laying on her side letting me stroke her tummy, it felt weird, like she could be pregnant, but im no expert so i dont know. She has had 3 litters in the past so mayb her tummy feels funny from that? I dont know. I'd like to bring her and Romeo in to work to get them vet checked and bathed. I just dont want to freak them out. Since Comet is taking this new move so great, I was thinking about just taking her to work, and get her vet checked, maybe the vet can tell me if she is pregant or not. Do you guys think i should wait a week or not? I dont want to freak her out, since she would have to stay at work with me till i left,.
Hope everyone is doing well, I havnt had much time to do anything but pop in real quick. Hopefully that will change soon.
I would take both cats in, it is easier for them to have a huge abruption in their lives and then just get over it......but it is harder for both of them, to bestressed by being moved, then get comfy and happy and then get stressed again by the vet. I would just get it over with, besides, if Comet is pregnant, she needs all the care a momma dog will need, prenatal care, kitten food, etc. It is amazing what even a week of prenatal care can do for a mama and her babies..... POST PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Katz....I took Comet in today and she IS pregnant. I didnt take Romeo but I will tomorow. I'll post pics as soon as I can find my camera adapter. Heres a link to Comet's sister's page, they look identical. www.enchanted-tails.com/F1.htm Romeo has a completly differnt look to him and color. I hope the link works, i dont know how to fix it if it doesnt, some mod i am hehe....
im a little nervous about this pregnancy, I've never had a pregnant cat before, if anyone has any tips or advice I would appriciate it. I just bought her Wellness kitten food, and she is eating Felidae dry(the pet store didnt have wellness dry in kitten)
She is just so sweet, even at the vets office Comet was so loving and just wanted to be pet, i dont think any of this is phasing her, Romeo is a differnt story.
Im thinking of changinf Comet's name to Juliet, then I would have Romeo and Juliet...hehe

Congrats! I checked out the site and that breed is absolutely gorgeous! I think the marbled pattern is my favorite although they are all beautiful. Can't wait to see pics of your two!
Basically, just listen to your vet. Most cats can handle pregnancy and delivery on their own with little interuption, she will need a safe, quiet place to have her kittens, (unfortunately for you, she will choose it and you will not have a choice unless you crate her) Tiocy has had quite a few litters of kittens, plus my mom always had cats having kittens, it was common to have multiple litters per year(not my choice!! I was just a KID!) Anyway, just make sure that whereever it is set up for mama to have her babies is kept WARM! It is crucial, also remember that it is beyond common to lose a kitten in the first week or so, so prepare yourself for that. The best thing to do though, is listen to your vet and many times you can take them in and let them deliver at the vets just to prevent any problems.......chances of problems are slim. Beautiful kitty by the way, I can't wait to see pictures of her and him. I like Romeo and Juliet! Very sweet!
Leave it at Comet...the other couple were ill-fated, perhaps these two will do better. Names have power, and are not to be discounted, or taken lightly.
Thanks for the advice :) I hope evereything goes well.
Right now we have both cats in my exercise room. Since neither are fixed im worried about the spraying. So I came up with an idea.
Out in the yard by the back door we have a nice, large, shed. It has windows, its very roomy, and it has electricity. It also has two layers of shelves/levels that are pretty wide, that run along the whole inside of the shed.
So we are converting it into a temporary cat room. We are carpeting the ledges and shelves, we are going to put linolium on the floor for easy cleaning. We are going to put in ramps so they can get to the differnt levels. We are going to hang a huge rope from the ceiling to the floor, incase they feel like climbing up. Im going to make a nesting area. And we are going to put in an air conditioner/heater. It should be a nice set up when we are done. We are also going to get some cat hammocks and beds to put in there too. It will be good for the new cats since they are not fixed, they can be in there till they do get fixed.
Im wondering though, when Comet has her babies, should I keep her and the babies in the shed and move Romeo inside, or should i keep Comet in the house and Romeo in the shed?
I think the converted shed would be a quiet, warm space for her, where she has a lot of privacy. We were even thinking of putting a small tv and dvd player in there so we can sit with her and the babies for long periods of time.
Anyways I'm open to any cool ideas for my shed project, I want to make it a very nice place for a cat to be. Then in the furture I can foster cause I will have the perfect place to keep them.
I'll take pictures once its all done, but we have to do it quick since we dont know how far a long Comet is. The Vet said possibly 2 weeks into it, but i was reading online and it said when cats fisrt start showing that they are usually into their 5th week. So it could either be 4 weeks or 6 weeks till the babies are here.
Ok im rambling now, I better go so Im not late for work. Have a good day guys!
Okay, first thing, take Romeo in to be fixed......that way you will not have to worry about him spraying(although he may still) but you will also not have to worry about him leaving your comet for another girl! LOL Cats can be quick and get out fast. They can be as desperate as a dog when they smell a female in heat. I think the shed will be cool for them but you also do not want them completely shut out from you guys either. You may think about making a covered bridge or similar to your house so that they can eventually walk back and forth.....
As far as mama having babies, it would be MUCH better for her to be in the house with you. You will need to keep an eye on them after they are born. Tiocy was pushed away by her mother at 3 weeks old, had I not been there, she would have died, my mom said if I could save her, I could keep her.......well, she is still here(at age 10) Also, some males can get jealous and kill kittens. Something you can do, is schedule a C-section with Comet and have her spayed at the same time. Cats can come into heat within a week after delivering! I will try and think of more, but I would definitely keep the mama in the house with you. I LOVE bengals, they have such a great personality.
BTW, Kitty brought up a good point on the name! LOL I hadn't thought of that! You may want to think a little more about their names.
C-section babies have immune problems, too often. Just make sure she can't escape till after she raises the kits and is fixed. Stressing the queen, she may eat her own young. Like Katz said, the male is very likely to eat the babies. He prolly will spray so I would want him out in a shed, too.
Ok so Comet is gonna stay in the house with us so she can have her babies close by us. Romeo will have to be moved out of the room she is in now before she gives birth, but how do I know? Also he is more scared then her, she is actually completely settled, and he is getting better but he is still nervous and hides, though today he was eating in front of me for the first time. I want to put him in the shed when the time comes, but i feel bad he will be in there all alone, also if he is still scared when the time comes, im worried it will make it worse. I havnt let him meet any of the other cats yet becuase he is so scared, i didnt want to do that till he was comfortable, so I c ouldnt put one of my other cats in there with him.We are going to put our extra tv in the shed with a dvd player and i was going to buy the dvd,"the cat sitter" that they sell at Petco, we are also gonna put a chair in there so we can sit and hangout with him. The only thing is that the shed isnt insulated, but where he lived before he only had chainlink covered by a tarp. We are gonna put an a/c in there for the summer and when it is hot, but do you guys think he will be ok?
Im definitly going to get him neutered before he meets up with Comet agian after the babies have been weaned. I dont want to have anymore babies, its pretty stressful if you have never done it before.
I wish Comet didnt come to us pregant, then i could let her meet the other cats and roam the house with them. Im worried that introducing her to the other cats could cause toomuch stress and might hurt the babies. what do you guys think? If i could let her roam the house with the others then that would be so much better, but i defintly dont want to if it will hurt the babies or stress mama out.
Thanks for reading this rambling, im new to this so im sure im gonna have tons of more questions. I've been researching online but I still have so many questions. I feel like im the one having babies...lol.
