Somehow while me and all the roomies were at work, Lana my border collie mix, got a major laceration inbetween two toes. Its awful looking and is in the worst location. She is probley goona need stitches, and since the laceration is in such an akward place Im sure they will have to either sedate her or put her under. Im taking her in to work at 10 when the doctor gets there, luckily one of my roomates is a vet tech so he cleaned it for me and wraped up her paw so it wouldnt get infected.
Poor Lana is really depressed. She is my most active dog and its gonna be hard to keep her quiet while it heels. Poor baby.
I'm sure it'd be just sedation since it's not a huge laceration. They can't feel it and they just looked real doped up. haha....Dr.Walls(my boss) was sedating a cat w/ an abcess today and after it was knocked out, he was fishing around the whole with hemastats and squeezing out the puss, eww.
Poor Lana! I wonder what did happen? I guess something like that could be caused even just by stepping on a rock or stick the wrong way. Hope all goes well!
Poor baby, did you ever find what she cut herself on? Something like that happened to Rufus once in our yard. I doctored him up bandages, for a couple weeks. He healed up great, and I know I saved myself a few hundred $.
Reckon one of the other dogs could have been playing with her and a tooth got her foot? How many stitches did it take? Hopefully she's back to normal in no time.
Im sorry I havnt updated, My Momma cat had her babies the day after Lana hurt her paw, so I have been very distracted.
Lana's laceration required about4-5 stitches, they had to anestetize(sp?) her, it was so sad seeing her asleep like that. I didnt want to be around while he was stitching her up but they were short staffed, and since I work there, he made me hold her paw up.
It took her a while to come out of it. She didnt want to move and she started breathing really heavy once we were home, she was breathing 140 breaths per minute, the norm is between 20-30 breaths per minute. Luckily I live with a Vet tech from work, he came home and carried her outside for some fresh air, which seemed to do the trick, she started walking around and was doing much better.
Her paw was wrapped up but after about 5-7 days she took it off. The vet said the best thing is to leave it off cause it needs to air out, so as long as she doesnt try to get the stitches out she doesnt have to were a wrap.
She still tries to lick it, but it is getting much better, she doesnt limp anymore and she runs around like her normal crazy self. The stitches come out on the 18th.
I still dont know how she did it, but i have an idea. We have a wall in our backyard, on top of the wall is a iron gate of some sort, Im guessing the neighbors behind me added it cause I see their Lab jumping at the wall all the time, all you see is this labs head bouncing up and down. Anyway when this dogs does that Lana jumps at our side of the wall, Im thinking she was jumping and on her way down one time her paw probly got caught on something, maybe a peice of the iron fence.
Or maybe she was just runnning around like crazy and cut it on something, im not sure, hopefully it doesnt happen agian.
