How long after a bath are you supposed to wait to but flea medicine on dogs? I had been told to wait 3 days, since a bath washes away all the oils. Can it be done sooner?? Thanks!!!
Sorry nobody replied to you. I would not be much help. I use Zodiac flea spray on my dogs right after their bath, when they are still damp, as it is easier to spread around on a wet dog. I have never used the systemic poisons, like frontline and advantage, I figured that is what you were asking about. My Lab forum has about 80 people an hour on it, and has search features in every sub-forum, there are diet and health forums... Maybe you can get some info there... http://www.lab-retriever.net/board/showthread.php?t=76979&highlight=bath+flea
Advantagr and frontline plus aren't toxic at all. They've done too many tests on too many dogs and cats. It's so safe they use it on prisoners in jail. It's not a cause of death for any animal, sure they may foam at the mouth if they lick it (if the owner applied it too low on the shoulders) but as far as death, it's not possible. Hartz and Sergents are poisons because they contain pesticides and frontline doesn't.
I work at a vet office and we highly recommend frontline plus, trust me. It's the safest thing out there for fleas and ticks(and chewing lice). As far as baths, we tell people not to bath 2 days before and after you apply it because it needs time to absorb into the hair follicles. Don't use anything over the counter like Hartz or Sergents (from wal-mart) because it can actually be very toxic because it's absorbed into the bloodstream instead of hair follicles and has been known to kill, especially cats. I've given this speech to alot of clients and I feel good when they say 'Oh gosh! I'll never use that stuff again!"
Thanks Heff. We have the Advantage. Ticks arent really a big problem so we just needed something for fleas. Hey, arent you in KY too? I think I remember that from "another" forum. Im in the western part. Now, having said that, I know me saying ticks arent a big problem doesnt make sense! haha We have only found one on Luke so far. Thanks again!
Dunno. But I get lots of new puppybuyer candidates from "mysteriously dead" dogs, lately. I treat the yard and house, once a year, and have no fleas. The dogs are not wearing any chemicals, themselves...although I am knowledgeble enough to eradicate anything on this planet...Bugs DIE...where I live...
Who knows. People can say it was frontline and mean something else. People have done that to me and when I question them where they got the flea/tick product, if they say a pet store or walmart, I know it's cheap and toxic. Stuff available from vets can't be or they'd be in deep crap. Cheap is always going to be toxic when it comes to flea killers, etc.
