Oh No, Pregnant Agian!

When Momma's babies were born, that day I got their father neutered.
Now babies are 9 weeks old and Momma is pregnant agian. Im guessing my male got to her sometime after the neuter while his sperm was still active.

Now I face a dilema.
Im defintly getting her spayed and having the babies aborted, its not healthy for her to have two litters this close together. Plus im not a breeder and I had planned to get her spayed once the babies were weaned.

So I got to get her spayed before the pregnancy goes to far, but i also need her milk to dry up. I heard its hard on them if they get spayted late term and if they have milk. So this is my dilema.

Do I wait two weeks for her milk to dry up and chance a late term spay/abortion. Or I dont wait for her milk to dry up and I have her spayed this week?

What do I do?
I know both are risky but im wondering which option would be best.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I think this question is best left for your vet to advise you on.  I don't know which option would be the safest for her.

honestly, i would just opt to let the babies be born. i'm sure it won't be as hard on her to have two litters this close together as to have her abort them or spay her when she's still got milk. just my opinion though. i agree with denise.

I have to agree on letting her have them and then getting her spayed after that. If he got her immediately, she would be due soon. Cats are only pregnant for about 63 days (9 weeks at 7 days a piece is 63 days) So my guess is that it happened a couple weeks after kittens were born, so she may be due in just a couple weeks. Most cats that go in to heat after kittens are born have it within the first two weeks.

While it is not the best thing for her to have kittens this close together, it will not hurt her, and honestly, you could have her go through some mental trauma by aborting them this late. Alot of people will say that the cat doesn't know but our cat Asha was very pregnant when I got her from the shelter(they were going to put her down) anyway, she had her kittens a bit too early and there seemed to be something wrong with them, after two weeks of me trying to save them, they all passed away. She has never been the same. She started hating people for a while and then she got obsessive and she would get overly mama-ish(don't think that is actually a word) She just got very distant with us. It wasn't until we got Bounder that she started acting normal again, but she acts like his mama. She cleans him and calls him when he gets too far. She now does the same thing to Ariel. She will panic if she cannot find them.

It is just my opinion but I would let her have them and keep her "locked up" until you can get her fixed.

I think it is too late in the pregnancy to abort. If the male is fixed now she can have the babies and not worry about this happening again, then you can wait til those babies are weaned then get her fixed. As long as she is a indoor cat and never gets out I don't see her getting pregnant again.

If these babies now are 9 weeks and she got preggo shortly after having the babies that means that she is most likely due in the next 7 days. Like I said before I think it's too late to abort.

The thing also to think about here is that even though she is a domestic cat, nature still holds that she must reproduce to keep her species alive.  Cats have babies back to back all the time and never have a problem with it.  I have heard from many vets that it is perfectly safe to let them have one litter after another.  IMO, she is fine to deliver another litter but i agree that i'd ask your vet to be sure.

Isn't this nice? We probably all have very strong opinions on this one way or another, but no one jumped on anyone. Everyone is really trying to help Sydney. I love this forum. I hope I can have time in the future to visit more often!

Thanks for your advice guys!

It was a tough decision cause I didnt want to terminate the litter but i also had to take Mommas health into consideration.

I opted for the spay and it was done two days ago.

Good news is that she wasnt pregnant! Im so relieved! The doctor said it was probley a false pregnancy or she was in heat.YAY!
The babies are going to new homes with in the week, im so sad.

Wow that couldn't have worked out better! I would've said terminate the litter unless that vet said it was unsafe to do so. But luck (or more likely your good judgement in having the male neutered) was with you!
