Wednsday night I went with all our people, to our first training session. it was at a dog boarding/training facility called Doggie land. We are being shown more in depth how to help make dogs more adoptable. How to get them to straighten up and not be crazy jumping little dogs. It was very interesting. Did you know dogs smell the testosterone on men and see them more as a challenge. Thats why they may bark at a man moreso than a women. That made me think of my mother in laws new adopted dog. Fritz may have just been around more women. He would bark at my husband and other men. He is fine with men, but warms up to them slower. Now I know why. But anyways, it was very interesting. Next week we bring a dog to help train and learn.
Oh and when I got home, I was barking out orders, and gosh darn it all. I had all three dogs lined up sitting for me. LOL, My husband said woahhhh, you've been at a training class. I told myself, this is what I needed to do to get Lilly to stop her jumping bean act whenever I got home. Firm loud commands, no whimmpy hush hush sits. That girl knew I was serious. I may bring her to class next week, depends on wether Steph wants us to bring the rescues or not.
Sounds like they have loads of info! I never heard that about the men & dogs before. I always attributed it to their lower voice tone but it does make definite sense.
I have been to seminars by the Monks of New Skete and Brother Christopher has always pointed out the voice differences and how guys & gals have some work to do on changing theirs to reflect what they are trying to achieve with the dogs. Gals have a hard time to learn to automatically lower their timbre of their voice when giving a command while the guys have a really difficult time feeling comfortable raising the pitch of their voice to give praise. Growling out praise doesn't do it while a soft spoken loving voice giving a command doesn't give the impression of the voice of authority.
I've never heard of that group. It does make sence about the voice tones. Its is hard to remember. My next class is tommorrow, we bring a dog to hrlp train.
This place had that trainer Ceasar Millan, Is that his name???. He came and helped to train our trainers.
