I don't know if I told you all or not but I started working part-time at our humane society while working part-time at the animal clinic I've been with for a year....Well, I was offered a full time position at the humane society as an animal care taker and I got it! So, last Saturday was my last day at the clinic (x-mas party + my sending off party, haha) I've been with the humane society since September 12th and I LOVE it! My most favorite dogs are the pits by far....I've ran into one mean pit and the rest are just random breeds like boxers, Rotties, etc. There are 4 that I've fallen in love with and I will definitely fight for. They're D-O-G, Marquis, and Poncho and Lefty(they're brothers). Here's a pic!
D-O-G is absolutely wild. He loves to escape out of his cage(which may get him in trouble one day but we all know he's harmless) and he turns his head around and looks at you when you come in as if to say "I'm dead sexy". ha! He can open the push door to outside and run around and has even escaped through a fence, which he broke in the past. Lmao. He's just a big dummy!
Marquis has a constant smile on her face and makes friends with everyone around her, and every dog they put in her cage. She came in really skinny but now they're wanting her to lose weight so she can be spayed. ha! She's a doll!
AND! Poncho and Lefty. They're brothers and they've been with us off and on for a year since they were 3 months old. They love to destroy toys, leashes, blankets so that's probably why they're returns. They're huge dogs but when you get in the cage with them(I love to do that!) they gang up on you and try to pull your shirt off, ha! They eat out of the same bowl of food together and not once have I seen them fight. They have to be adopted together because if they were seperated, they'd grieve themselves to death. They're my most favorite boys. I will defend them all if anyone had anything bad to say about them.
Awe thats cool Heff, congratulations on the move. Thats good that you can guide people and tell them how each dog is. Thats something alot of shelter dogs don't have.
One of our rescue gals is working at a shelter right now and has made a petfinder page for all the dogs there. I just helped her put graphics on it. Maybe you could do that too. The more sites they are on the better.
They're all rotten, we've made them that way :) Hopefully, since we open our new adoptions center tomorrow, we'll be more busy and can adopt out more than we have been. All 4 of those pits above have been with us since August, and went up for adoption on 8-31-06....too damned long!!
Sadly, thats how it is with pits, not just anybody can adopt them. They usually take many months to adopt out here too. Once in a blue moon they will go as soon as they come in. Last night my husband said to me, Why can't we just keep Nellie the chi, Nobody will know. Ha. She is such a little sweetheart. I do love her, but if I did, I would always be worried my landlord would find out and get in trouble. Sooo I have to be the bigger person and let her go when the time comes. I know she has dug her way into my heart from day one.
