When I first got Shadow I fed him Eukanuba, but it made his breath smell something horrible Now he is eating Natures Recipe ,but he doesn't see to care too much for it.What do you feed your dog/dogs and what do you know about the quality of its ingredients? Thanks in advance. Deb
My pups eat Purina Puppy chow, since I switched them from the last kind (I can't remember the name off the top of my head) I have noticed that their tear stains are barely there. They seem to be on a better potty schedule and are doing well on it.. to be honest I haven't read the ingredients.
Chloe' eats Solid Gold brand food. I feed her dry with a spoonful of the canned in different flavors to give her variety. I was feeding her Natural Balance, but it was harder to get and I travel to Canada during the summer months and we can't take dog food over the border. So I had to find a good brand that she can eat in both countries. I will only feed my baby premium dog food. I won't give her any brands from the discount stores. They are too full of fillers and have too many ingredients that cause allergies.
We started out with Eukanuba and then I heard all of the rumors about them.... I switched to Wellness. Wellness gave them bad gas!! It was horrible. I then switched to Natural Balance and it has made the world of difference.
Mine are currently on Natural Balance Venison and Rice allergy formula......They were on Canidae which I liked but Lyra has some allergy issues(I think caused by chicken) so I switched her to the NB......Her coat improved so much that I switched Loki over as well. Lately I have been doing a lot of reading/contemplating about trying them on a raw diet...I really do think raw is best (over any kind of kibble) if you don't mind the prep. Until then I will continue to feed them a premium human grade kibble.
**I have a ton of good Dogfood links if anyone is interested in researching their kibble and what it contains..
Natural Balance Venison and Rice ...Well IM off to petsmarts ,maybe it will help Shadows coat,it feels dried out and I use a good quality shampoo. Thanks ,Deb
Petsmart doesn't carry Natural Balance, but I believe Petco does...or if there is a specialty pet store or a feed store near you, many of them carry NB :)
About a month ago I switched Farley & Chloe over to Blue, Lamb & Brown Rice formula which is available only thru Petsmart. It has human grade free range lamb. Farley has had allergies since he was a pup and for quite a while I had him on Fromm's Chicken & Veggies but about 3 months ago I noticed his allergies starting to progressively get worse. I searched around as I wanted something with no chicken, corn or wheat as I suspect at least one of them was the culprit. So far so good - his itchiness has cleared up as well as his goopy eyes. Here's their website if anyone wants to check them out.
I have 2 standard poodles, age 8 years and the baby is 3 months. Charley ,the big guy eats Iams, and the breeder told us to feed Iams to the little one named Lacey, beauase that is all she can eat without diahhrea. I wanted to give her a more premium food so slowly I am adding Nutro Lamb and rice to the Iams. The vet said ProPlan, another breeder of standards said that she only gives Solid Gold. I want to give her the best for her delicate stomach and then swich Charley to that also. I am very confused, I would like that poster to give the address for the dog food site. Thank you. I am happy to have this board. I was on the goldendoodle site for a awhile but I had to rehome the 6 month old doodle due to my husbands allergies.

We also ask you to consider what is not listed on the label. There is more to a pet food than just a pretty bag and ingredient lists. There are questions of Quality Control, Cleanliness in Manufacturing, Freshness, Quality of individual ingredients, and more.
As you read through these labels ask yourself, “What is not in the ingredients that should be?” You will notice that we have provided you with some important criteria.
CRITERIA #1
Things Your Pet Food Should Not Contain
1. Chemical Preservatives - BHA, BHT, Ethoxyquin
2. Corn - known allergen, poor source of protein, highly indigestible
3. Wheat - same as above
4. Soy - same as above
5. By-Products - indigestible beaks, feathers, feet, heads, etc. Does not have to contain meat
