We got a new computer tower (I don't know all of the technical names) and we "thought" we got Microsoft Office 2003 with it.. well we did, for a 3 months trial period. It evidently costs a few hundred dollars to buy! I just can't spend that much money right now, but cannot open any documents or spreadsheets... All I have been able to use is notepad....yuk. What can I buy at a reasonable price that will be pretty current? Any suggestions?

Is that the only OfficeWorks that came with it?  Most PC's come with a full version of something (Corel Word Document, MS Works, etc.) already fully installed in it.  Mine came with MS Works already in it.  I have never heard of a situation like yours.

Well, maybe I didn't explain well enough. We bought what I guess (my husband bought it) a refurbished computer tower (??) not a new screen-just the tower. It did come with the Microsoft Office 2003 that had Powerpoint, word, spreadsheet... As far as I know that is all it came with....    but it evidently expired after 3 months and to renew it was, I think, like $399.00... I think we got cheated!! (duh)... I need to call the place and have been meaning to, put I'm a procrastinater (sp)...

If you want Office 2003 at a more reasonable price you could try Ebay....I've seen it go for under $100 on there...

I guess I should try eBay...I just always wonder on things like that why it is so much cheaper. However, I buy all kinds of other things on eBay, so I might as well try it. Thanks for reminding me.

I got it. I'll have to get back to you tomorrow when I know exactually what I have. I know I have Word, PowerPoint and Excel. There are also a few other progies on there too but can't remember at the moment. It's been a long 2 weeks for me with no days off. I have tomorrow off and I promise i'll get back to you then with everything. K?
