My cats lip is swollen

My precious goddess of a cat is having lip malfunctions at the moment.  I still tell her she is beautiful........but honestly, she isn't...lol  This has happened 3 or 4 times in the past.  The left side of her top lip will swell out just a bit.  When looking at her from the underside of her throat, you can see the lip swollen out.  I looks like the pink lart of her lip is several times thicker than it should be.  In the past it wasn't huge or anything and doesn't seem to inhibit her in any way - even from eating.  She's still the same old cat.  It usually lasts a few days to a week and goes away.  It would come back about every 3 or 4 months.  (The first time we just thought she had got in a cat fight or something).

Now, it is larger than in the past and has been here for nearly 3 weeks.  I just haven't taken her to the vet with all thats going on and she doesn't appear sick or anything.  I honestly hate to pay $200 toa  vet for something that just goes away anyway.  BUT, I'm gonna have to take her this time I guess, because it's not going away.  I'm going to try and get a pic of it and post it here so you can see...it's weird looking.  Anyone else ever hear of this happening like this and keep coming back?

EDIT:  Ok...here are the pics...sorry they aren't so clear......could this be from fighting withe the other cats?

I have had cats most of my life and that is a new one on me!  Is there any visible wound such as a bite or scratch when this happens?  Is it always the same side that swells?  I agree that it is probably time to have a vet take a look at it, especially since it keeps reoccuring.

Keep us posted how she's doing.

Don't feel bad....we laugh at her too.  She is such an arrogant cat who is treated like a queen in our house....she knows she is Miss Beautiful, ....lol......and now she has a puffy lip.  It's hard not to make fun of her arrogance at this point.

I have never heard of feline herpes!  I'll have to look that up.  I haven't seen any blisters....it just swells.  It is always the exact same side and same place that does it.

We swear she makes herself sick on purpose.  She is VERY finicky and only will eat canned cat food.  The other cats eat dry food.  We put them on it when they were kittens because canned food smells so bad.  Anyway, whenever we don't buy the canned food and force her to eat the dry food....she amazingly gets sick....lol.  Her last attempt at kitty suicide costed me $187 at the vets office and we never found out what was wrong.  She just quit eating, got a very high fever and BOOM.......canned food cured it quicker than the anti-biotics.  How can you not love a cat like that...lol?

I'm going to go ahead and take her silly self to the vet tomorrow since I have some free time.  This is the same cat we rushed to the ER vet when she appeared paralyzed only to find out she was in heat at the time - another $75 out the window...lol  It's not that I mind spending the money....but dang.....at least have a legitimate sickness.....lol

She is a true Ghetto kitty.  We got her free from the Ghetto in Nashville......literally.   I guess you can take the kitty out of the ghetto but you can never take the ghetto out of the kitty...lol  She makes us pay BIG when she doesn't get what she wants!

Oh, how I love my cat!

ok you mentioned a change in food , i read that it could be allergies brought on by a change in food.

I posted this on a cat forum as well......maybe they'll have some ideas too.  The more I look at it....the more it intrigues me.....I guess I'll just have to be patient until tomorrow...lol
