I can't believe it! It's still cold weather here (was in the 20's last night) and we have found fleas on Ivan and one of the cats! They just started scratching about a week ago and I thiught it was dry skin from the winter.....nope! Picked up thje kitty and a flea jumps on me! WHERE could they have gotten fleas in this cold of weather? They go outside some each day.......but are fleas really THAT hungry that they'll sit out in the ice and wait for a warm body to walk by??? I thought the winter weather killed fleas out.
I know my mom found fleas on her cat but we really haven't had a winter here. I think today it was like 60 degrees out. I have never had a flea or tick in my yard though. I better knock on wood. I think the fleas are getting stronger though. Frontline always works well on my moms doggy.
Here in the Deep South, we have fleas all year round. They're not as bad in the winter as in the summer, but they are bad enough to require Advantage 12 months a year.

I'm in the south, too, but I haven't noticed any here. Jazz had them terribly bad when I got her. She was infested with them, but after I bathed her several times that night with some type of shampoo that I bought at Petco (can't remember the name-some type of natural product), I have never seen another one. That stuff was wonderful! The fleas just started falling off of her dead. Let me know if you are interested and I will look up the name. Of course, I may see some this summer...we haven't been through a summer together. It was the end of summer when I got her. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but my back yard is covered in ivy... no grass... so I don't know if fleas are only in grass or if I have just been lucky...we will see!
