Something to think about

This is a sad story but something to think about to all the small breed owners.

Poor baby!

That is one of the 1st things the gal who runs the obed. school we go to always tells new students as part of their 1st class - to never put a dog in a kennel with a collar on.

That happened to my dog last year...the collar thing...in the back yard...stick caught in his collar and he choked.... I had never heard of any stories about collars until AFTER that happned!! So my dogs don't ever wear collars unless they are going for a walk. I know that is extreme but I just feel better about it.

That is so sad!! My dogs never wear their collars unless they're on a walk with me or in the car. Sometimes I leave them on after we get home from a walk or ride, but they're definitely not always on them.

Labradors chew off any kind of collar.
I use choke chains to hang the dog tags.
Two of my #100 field Labs were playing one night, I heard a wrong noise, and investigating, found an apparent dog fight, one dog at the other's throat. I came out shouting, in my nighty, I found that one dog, in imminent danger of having her jaw broken (can you imagine a dog w/a broken jaw?) was attached tightly to the other dog's choke collar-which was in turn, was in imminent danger of being choked to death. A little buzzed on my night cap, I attempted to subdue two #100 lb. dogs that were both biting and scratching me. Paniced enough to pummel and wrestle them into submission, it took 1/2 an hour to get them apart, while dinner simultaneously burned on both the stove and BBQ. Hearing the shouting and yelping, my neighbor came to the fence. I was bloody, exhausted, and gripping the two dogs for our lives. She asked if she could help. Knowing that we had woke her up, I burst into tears, and told her we were fine. I got them apart soon after. When the one dog had laid down, the other had crossed over her, holding the collar-hence the tangle. God protected us that night, I hope he will do you the same. Give collars some thought.
