Do JRT get along with other dogs? I have a now 7 month old Miniature Schnauzer (female) and heard that they are same sex aggression/aggressive to other dogs..
That depends on the dog. Terriers can be agressive but usually only to the same breed type and only if they are allowed to and are adults. I have a 9 year old JRT male (fixed) and a 9 year old finnish spitz (fixed) and i just bought a 3 year old male (intact) and a 5 month old female (also not fixed) JRT and they are all fine togeather. I asked several breeders the same question and they all said that if they were same sex agressive, how could they have kennels and breed? Any dog can be agressive but if you get a puppy JRT, it should never be agressive if you don't let it. I have seen no agression from my JRT's except my 9 year old who only growls a little and that is because he is jealous of the new dogs. He has never done anything but growled a little. If you plan on fixing a JRT that you get, then there will be no problem at all. I really love my JRT's and i think they would be a good dog for you. I hope this helped.
Wow.. Jazz is already 7 months? Kiba will be 8 months old tomorrow and yes she is all black. How can I get a pic to be "my image"?
Thanks oasis05... I think a JRT would be a good choice for me. Kiba needs and would love a little brother or sister... the cats dont really like playing that much LOL.
Do your males act differently than your females? How so? Thanks again!
Merico, as I recall, you begin training and socializing your dogs real young. You will probably have better luck than the people that said the dogs were aggressive, because you are so on top of things I think they will get along famously for you, and the one dog having had some training, will help the new dog to fall into step. They will likely have a blast together. It will be kinda neat to have two different kinds. If you already have black, will you get white in the JRT?
She is cute. My dog instructor said your dog was old enough to go to classes when you started taking her. I am overprotective of my dogs. My dogs are poorly socialized because of that The youngest I have ever taken a dog out of my yard was 51/2 mos. Kitty was 10 monthes, I used to wait way over a year... I need to relax more? Not sure.
It has been my experience that it is great to start socializing pups with all different environments, people & other dogs as soon as they've had their shots. In the obed. school I have seen so many pups come in who are 5, 6 or 7 mos old and haven't been socialized and it is very difficult for them. Most are shy and overwhelmed when they are all of a sudden exposed to so much at once and it takes them quite some time before they become comfortable and sure of themselves and all that's around them. The younger pups who have been socialized I find have much more confidence and are more readily able to absorb obed. training which makes the training so much easier.
Merico- I don't really see any difference with my males or females. They can all be sassy when it comes to shareing or vying for attention. But actually, we did have a little tiff he other day between my female finnish spitz and my new male JRT over a bone but they are all still going thru the stage of who's the leader and the bottom of the group. My finnish spitz won....lol! Fighting can happen when you introduce a new animal to another but it's usually just establishing pecking order like mine did, then it's done.
