Your min. schauzer is Kiba, right? I just love the picture that you have of her as your avatar. The last 2 times that I have had Jazzy groomed, they cut her like a "real" schnauzer. I hate it. they shave her ears and head.. I guess I just need to let her grow out and start over. Do you get Kiba (I think that is her name) groomed? What do you tell them? Thanks!

Jawlaw, i know this wasn't directed to me but ask your groomer for a puppy cut.  Longer face and ears.

I just tell them to do the Schnauzer cut. That pic of her was about a month or so after a grooming... you should have seen before yesturday, she looked like an Ewok! But she got cut down yesturday and she doesnt even look like the same dog. Her front legs were matted from being out in the snow with long hair, so her front legs are shaved, her back legs are long, and she has a shaved part then fur on her chest from another mat (it looks kinda dumb). I wish they wouldve also shaved down her back legs so at least she'd look the same.. Oh well.

And now with the fur she has a tiny head and a big ol' butt! LOL. Someone needs to go on a diet/exercise more.

Hey guys. My mom always has either my dad or I do the cutting of their min. schnauzer. I keep telling her to take her to a groomer 1 time and then maybe dad and I could be able to do the regular schnauzer cut on her. She always comes out looking like an Ewok anyway 'cause I never know what to do with her head and face. You can see pics of her on dogster: Sadie Jane http://www.dogster.com/?106819 She needed a haircut very badly in those pics. lol.

Sadie is cute. On Jazzy- they shave everything but her beard and then they leave it very long. I hate that! I know it might be the "real" schnauzer cut, but I do not like it. Thanks for the help.

Perhaps you can find a pic of one with the clip you want so you can show the groomer.  Even if it isn't exactly what you want you can explain the differences.

Our groomer laughed the 1st time I took Farley.  He asked which clip I wanted done.  I said I didn't want any of the typical poodle clips.  I explained what I wanted and luckily he understood.  He now has had a few people bring their poodles in asking for the "Farley clip".

what do you ask for, denise? What is the Farley cut??Hershey looks more like a poodle than a schnauzer... but when he has the schnauzer cut, his hair looks scraggly. When he is cut like a poodle, he looks like a sissy...lol. They even painted his toenails green this last time...OMG!

I came up with the term "Farley clip".  Over the past few yrs I have met some poodle owners who have liked how Farley was trimmed. It is low maintenance, neat and yet they aren't shaved close anywhere.  They asked where I had him groomed and when I tell them I said when they go in if they want it like him to just ask for the "Farley clip".  His groomer told me it took him a moment to figure out what the people were asking for the first time he had that request and then he laughed & told them he knew exactly what they wanted.  Believe it or not I have even had a couple of other poodle owners actually ask me what breed my dogs were.  They didn't recognize them as poodles because they weren't in any of the typical clips.  But I think it is quite obvious regardless of their clip that they are definitely poodles.
