I dont know if many people know Syd's history but she has had a rough puppyhood. I thought I would share.
When Syd was 2 months old and lived with her previous family, they left her and her parents and sister in the backyard 24/7. There was a pool back there with no fence around it. The family left one day and came back later to find Sydney in the pool. She must have fallen in when they left and she was clinging to the side with all the strength a 2 month old could. One of the children who was older called my bestfriend Veronica, and they both rushed Syd to the Vets.Syd was going into shock, shaking, and crying like crazy. The Vet estimated treatment to be $200, and the family decided they didnt want to spend the money. The Vet said to put her to sleep. Instead the family just took her home and wrapped her in blankets. Luckily she got better. A week later Veronica was telling me the story of this almost drowned puppy, and said the two puppies needed homes, but i said i couldnt take one since i lived in an apartment. One month later I am at the dog park with Winnie, and 3 children come to the park with two puppies. I ended up taking one of them b/c i was moving to a house and wanted a playmate for Winnie. When I was home cooking that night I was looking at this puppy and thinking about how the children said she was a boxer mix.I then remembered my friend saying the puppy that almost drowned was a boxer mix around the same age as this puppy i had just gotten. I called my best friend and told her to come over. She did and it turned out I got the same puppy! It was a really weird thing to happen, I think it was fate that I got her, especially since at the dog park anyone could have taken her and i didnt even know it was the dog my bestfriend was talking about.
When Syd was about 5 or 6 months, I left for 20 minutes to go get a CD with a friend.Back then I left the girls out and free roaming b/c they never had a problem, since they were so tired from going to the dog park everyday. When I came home I noticed a crushed up bottle on the floor, I took a closer look and noticed it was the new bottle of Alieve I had bought earlier in the day.All the pills were gone and turns out Syd was the one who ate everyone of them. I induced vomiting and took her to the Vet. She was acting normal but as soon as the doctor came to see her she started vomiting blood. They imdeitaly took her in back and she was hospitalized that night. They sent her home with me so she could be watched 24/7, she had 5 differnt pills she needed to take, each of them 3 times a day. Sydney started getting better but threw up everyday and night for two months. Eventually the throwing up only happened once in the middle of the night, and after 4 months Syd was back to normal. However Syd then got Demodex mange. She got it b/c the Alieve incident weakend her immune system. So she went in for dips everyother week. Now she is better and her fur is growing back.
Sydney is my baby, and i must admit my favorite, but Its b/c she has been threw so much while she was a puppy. I've put so much time and energy into her to make her better, and I know she loves me for it. I love all my girls, they are great but Syd has a special place in my heart.
Sorry this was so long I just wanted to share Syds story!
That is the most amazing story! I had no idea! It does make us closer with animals when we go through things like that with them. And the way you ended up with her! WoW! That is just a really touching story and Im glad you shared it! I beleive in fate too, and it definitely played a part here.
