This evening when I got back from my in-laws I decided to take Oscar for a walk just to relax some. Well I just decided to go for a small 15 minute walk because the Contender was about to ve on. Well, anyways as we turned the corner I saw two men out in their yard talking and out of the blue their dog came running full speed at us. It was small(about the size of a lab) and I thought that this was the end for this dog. Well, Oscar saw him and put himself between me and the dog, and he bowed up at the dog. I thought it was kind of funny because Oscar was trying to make himself look bigger. But then the little dog started showing teeth and Oscar reared up at it and knocked him to the ground. And all this time I am trying to pull Oscar back and the men are just watching like idiots. Finally the mans wife came and got her dog and was apologizing about it. I really thought there was going to be a serious fight and Oscar was going to majorly hurt this little dog. I just walked off and told the guy that next time he should have his dog on a leash because my dog could have caused serious injury. And plus we have a leash law here too. Oh well, that was part of my exciting day.
Isnt it crazy...there are leash laws every where and still some insist on not following the rules...I live in the sticks and walk my dogs...large or small with a leash at all times...These are the same people who wonder why their dogs get hit by cars, they get hurt by other dogs..(like it almost happened in your case) or they get lost...I believe on being truely responcable as an owner...everyone will be happier and safer if we all use our leash...
It was funny because he like widened his stance, jutted his chest out, and held his head really high. Kind of cute really. I wish I would have had a camara on me for the way he was standing. And to think he weighs almost 160 and the little dog was pushing maybe 50. How much bigger did he want to look?
I hate when people don't keep their dogs on leashes (except at the dog park, of course). I usually carry pepper spray when I walk my dogs just in case we have problems with unleashed dogs. I've never used the pepper spray on a dog, but I've discovered that pulling it out can kick irresponsible dog owners into gear.
I had to laugh at your description of a lab as a "small" dog. It takes a great dane owner to see labs as "small."
