OMG!!! What to do!!

My male Dobe got into a pot of pinto beans that were soaking in water. He ate a half of bad of the darn beans. This was yesterday! Today he is constipated and straining to go to the bathroom. What do I do to help him poop???


I tried to give him canned pumpkin that usually helps them soften their poop but he will not eat it. He drinks water a plenty I just cannot get this poor dog to poop lol!

I thought the canned pumpkin was given when they had the runs....so if you are trying that...it is the wrong thing. The pumpkin will firm up the stools. I sure hope you figure out something....

OMgosh no canned pumpkin gives them the poops if they eat too much of it. lol just ask colliemom she knows first hand I hear!

Why don't you give the vet a call to see if there is an over-the-counter human med that is safe & effective.

Poor dog. Maybe there is a over the counter supository(sp) you can give him. I know we had to do this for my daughter when she was a baby. Sounds gross but they do need it at times.

Pumpkin is generally used to stop Diarrhea or just regulate stools if she/he is constipated you are probably causing more harm than good by giving Pumpkin.

actully canned pumkin is a softener per my vet, you can use a mild softner or if that still doens't help try an emiman.

Go get a good amount of the canned cat food for hairballs, that will grease him up, that is what I use when they get a rawhide blockage.

well I came home from Dorothy's house with some stool softeners for him and low and behold thar she blows!!! Everywhere! Good Lord what a mess. Nothing like cleaning up recycled pinto beans!

pits when the pup had this prob. i thought the if one needed it they all might.  hehehe you should have seen the whelping box the next morning, don't know how i slept thru that.  everyone got a bath that morning.
