Glad to hear Rambo will be fine. Staples...Ouch! I know what a problem males can be with bitches in heat. Luckily, our two males are both around 5-6 lbs. and not 60+ (our standards). Sounds like you're ready for a good nap.

So you do protection work? That is neat stuff. Gosh, I like that Dobe. Years back I had one that color, I found him. I had a big field type stud dog at the time and was terrified that what happened to you would happen here, so I gave him up. I want another just like him when I am rich...
Aw pits, i'm so sorry this happened. I can only imagine how hard it must be. At least everyone is ok for the most part though. Try to relax and get some sleep tonight!
Glad to hear things are ok. I'm sure the fact that the female was in heat greatly influenced his ability to obey you. He sounds like a good dog, otherwise. Good luck.
Um, will pepper be getting spayed? I just got lilly spayed about three weeks ago. I was sooo glad she did not go into heat. she was spayed at 6 1/2 months. Glad Rambo is better. I know all about the snub look too, sasha does it. LOL

Great to hear the Rambo is ok. I had to get Piper baby diapers today She is starting her first heat. I am keeping them seperate too. Piper is 6 months old and mine fought the other day. No marks on either but i know it's crazy stuff
It's good to hear that Rambo is doing well. And I'm glad to hear that your vet will work with you on getting the male doggies all fixed. That's great!! I hope everything works out for you and Rusty and Rambo. I just hope he knows you still love him and I know it's really frustrating when you have a dog that won't listen to you sometimes, unfortunately in your case, it was at the worst time But, yeah, glad everything is working out for y'all!!
Jeez, you trained Cujo! Oh, the protection work is a hobby lots of folk have. They wear padded suits and teach grab and release, I thought that was what you were talking about. Sounds like snip city at your place this year. Does sound like you know exactly what you are doing. Hind sight is 20/20. I hope that you have a more restful week. I guess April Fool's hit early for you.
I was so happy when I checked in this morning to see that things are looking up! I was really concerned the other nite & didn't have a chance to check in last nite to see how everything was.
LOL oh kitty I didn't realize what you meant. I thought you were under the impression that I personal protection trained my dogs. lol I do not believe in the necessity of PPT. Especially with the breeds like dobermans. I taught my dogs the release command because I feel it is necessary to have obediance at all times in every situation. Dobermans especially are known for holding and not biting down or tearing unless what they are holding tries to get free. I wanted to be sure that when I say release they do so.
For example. (and again there are some exceptions to the rule) A Doberman who catches a prowler would corner the prowler and not touch him unless he moves. If the prowler were to try to get away the Doberman would "catch" and hold. Any movement would result in the tightening of the grip. To run would be the biggest mistake you could make with this breed. To be perfectly still is the key to not being torn up. When a Doberman has a hold on someone or something the very best course of action is to be able to control the dog enough to release on command. An uncontrollable Doberman can be extreamly dangerous.
I taught all my dogs to release on command for this very reason. I have also prevented many dog fights because I taught them this. I taught my dogs with other objects knotted towels their own toys sticks, even stuffed animals. My dogs will catch and hold on command and release on command. Made it really easy to catch the stray pigs lol. I don't believe in PPT because to me a dog that is well socialized, well cared for and obediance trained will no doubt protect home and family. And with Dobermans it is instinct to guard and protect. So why would one have to teach them what is a natural trait? IMO even the smallest of dogs with no protection backround will defend home and family 90% of the time. But speaking on the Dobermans, they automatically desire to do this and one need only have an obediant Doberman and the rest comes from within.
When my Female came home she was 12 weeks old. she had no training at all. After one week, no coaching or training, she knew the perimiter of the yard and would go out the door and walk the entire fence line twice. whe then would circle the garage and go in and out of the basement stairwell. She was patrolling the yard. It was instinct. She learned every inch of that yard the first week on her own and instinctivly did her job. Given her willingness to work I started to take her to the front yard which was not fenced in. I walked her the boundry of the yard allowing three feet off the curb and then back to the porch. I did this for a week. After that I could let her out the front door she would walk it twice and come back to the porch. She would sit and watch people walk by with no problems. Unless they stepped over that three foot mark. Then she would bark. I know I am rambling so I will stop now but you see my point? I just never will understand the need for people to teach their dogs PPT. And to me doing it as a hobby is dangerous. A half or inproperly PPT dog is a time bomb waiting to go off.

Huh. I don't know much about PPT. I just have seen pics, and heard people rambling on about their training. Can't even remember which forum. Probably the Lab-retriever.net. Sounds like release is a good thing to teach.
