Syd & Winnie both got sick lastnight!

Yesterday afternoon, after we came home from the dog park, the girls were all sleeping on the couch, then Syd got up and went in Lana's crate and threw up.It was just a little and Syd throws up about 2 times a week so I didnt think much off it. Well we all went to bed and at about 1am Syd got off the bed and started throwing up, it wasnt a whole bunch, all liquid, a yellowish brown. Then she went back to bed. At around 4am Winnie started vomitting, same stuff as Syd but more of it.

Winnie never just throws up, the lasttime she threw up was when she ate roofing tar, other then that she could eat anything and keep it down. Syd does throw up about 2x a week, always in the middle of the night.

We have been going to the dog park a lot lately and i noticed Winnie started eating grass there, she use to do that all the time, then i trained her not to and now she does it agian. I'm thinking that probly what would have caused Win to throw up, but Syd? I never see her eat grass at the dog park. Should I be worried? We are skipping the park today!

Hmm One of my dogs will throw up if she eats a bit much grass. I'dd stay away for awhile and see if it comtinues. If the vomiting continues maybe try fasting them for 12 hours or so, then give boiled chicken and rice for a day. Maybe two, see what the others say.

Thanks Puttin!

I forgot to mention that yesterday morning, when I was taking Winnie on her walk, she pooped and it was VERY soft, not diarrhea though, and it was a lot more then she normally does. She did it agian at the park.

Hope they get to feeling better. Oscar also tends to eat a bunch of grass if he is out very long. I used to here that they did it because their stomach was hurting. But I think Oscar does it because its a habit. But he also throws up once or twice a week too and there is nothing wrong with him.

There is a 24hour dog flu that is highly contagious going around. Personally, I think it is a Coronavirus. As long as the dog stays warm, they are fine, the sub normal temp can throw them into shock if they are outdoor dogs. Get some slippery elm bark if they seem distressed, yogurt, or Nutro Ultra will get the gut regulated, the Ultra is better than the yogurt, if you can afford it.

Kitty, I've heard about the dog flu going around here also.  My dogs haven't been walked their normal 2 miles for about a week now.  They're driving me insane.  Hmmm...  Maybe this is my issue with Zoe.  Maybe I'd be better off to walk her and risk her getting the virus?

Another thing to think on is the weather. Virus wake back up in the spring and reinfect from the moistened ground. It is a common time of year for simple intstional irritations and such things.

Watch for behavior changing, lethargy, and dehydration. Skip a meal with dirreah and/or give some boiled white rice.

If dog is also vomiting and/or dirrreah and lathargic/depresed, go to the nearest Vet or ER.

I'm in So. Calif. this crap went thru my GF's 60 bay kennel. Some dogs get sick, some don't. That is why vets often do not vaccinate for it. Unfortunatly for my GF, she was looking for a fever and the coldest, windiest night of the year, which is about 35 degrees, her stud dog passed away. When mine got it, I had had puppy buyers here that I should not have allowed in, my pups were 3wks. old. One dog got sick, after another, puking and diareah both in the first dog, then she was not moving, like her gut ached, and she was as cold as a stillborn puppy. I gave her slippery elm and she sighed and went into a restful sleep, and was fine the next morning, the virus attenuates or weakens w/each new dog it afflicts, it made two more puke, then the last two,at the back of the house did not get sick, thank god the pups did not catch it. Try coming over to my house before pups are 6+ weeks old, it will NEVER happen again. I broke my own rules. No good deed goes unpunished
