puttin510, have you had any problems with Norton conflicting with other programs? I've heard it can cause problems. My sister had Norton, and her computer kept getting slower and slower. I had her download Ad-Aware anti spyware and AVG (both free), clean up her spyware (she had over 1300 spyware hits the first time she ran it) and disable her Norton. It ran fine after that.
A big problem is when you have kids using the computer. Between the chats, the music downloads and free screensavers, they can really cause havoc on your system.

1) They can be what is called Time Released. In other words you could have downloaded something 2 weeks ago and then all the sudden yo have one. This has happened to me.
2) They can be placed in pictures. Yes pictures.
3) They can also be placed on links\web sites. If you visit that web site you will get that virus.
Trojian's are normaly time released. I've had one sit in my computer for as long as 3 months. I left it there to see how long it was set for. Trojian will and can destroy a computer, if you do not know how to fully get rid of them you will ALWAYS have it. It replaces a EXE file in the actualy Microsoft files (what windows runs on) It looks exacutlly like the real file only they have changed the l (L) to a I (i).
I have a friend that is a hacker and makes virus's, it is extremely hard for me to get one thanks to him. I currently have 3 firewalls and 2 anti virus's running at all times.
Forgot to add: Just because you have ran your virus scan and it pick up a Trojian and it says it has quarantined it, it has NOT. For the simple reason that it has replaced that EXE, if it was to quarantine that file Window would and will crash. Once that happenes the only thing you can do after that is load a new OS.
stormy how do I check to see if the system processes running are real or fake?

I'm not sure what you are asking me. Explain what exatually you are looking for or want. Also, inorder to tell you anything I need to know what OS you are running.
Wow!!! Look how many people have looked at this one thread!! 262..........hhhhmmmmmmm......doubt they're all members from here...............................must be a popular topic elsewhere as well...................

Oh yeah FireFox! Thats the answer. Please, I've used FireCrap before and that's exatually what it is Crap. Had more problem when on that than anything else.
I don’t want to get in to a browser argument here, but the fact is firefox is a lot more secure then IE. May not be perfect, but it will stop a lot more of the nasty stuff that will go through IE. This is indisputable fact.
I know it's not the number of members. Just take a look at all the other threads that pertain, or sound like they pertain, to the other forum...............all of them have view counts in the hundreds, whereas, the rest maybe only up to 50-100. That's my point.
Hey GTO, when I first got Norton my computer was slow. And I mean really slow. It was the firewall they have. But I called Norton and they told me how to configure it. Now it works just fine. I have dial-up and my computer is as fast as a computer that isn't.

umm again I have to disagree. I use Windows xp home and my husband and I have our own desktops. He uses firefox and I use IE. I have been on his desktop for the last two weeks (too lazy to switch bk and forth) And I have used firefox. I have gotten 5 viruses. Nothing is Flawless Norma. Including firefox. Three of those viruses came from webpages my husband visited.

Dear Tech Support: Last year I upgraded fromGirlfriend 7.0 toWife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition,Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activity. Applications such asPoker Night 10.3,Football 5.0 ,Hunting and Fishing 7.5, andRacing 3.6 I can't seem to keepWife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to! Girlfriend 7.0 , but the uninstall doesn't work onWife 1.0. Please help!
This is a very common problem that men complain about.
Many people upgrade fromGirlfriend 7.0 toWife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program.Wife 1.0is an OPERATING SYSTEMand is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0and to return toGirlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed.
You cannot go back toGirlfriend 7.0 becauseWife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Look in your Wife 1.0 manual underWarnings-Alimony-
Child Support. I recommend that you keepWife1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application"Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.
The best course of action is to enter the commandC:\APOLOGIZE because ultimately! you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will re turn to normal anyway.
Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance .Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean and Sweep ! 3.0,Cook It 1.5 andDo Bills 4.2.
However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program< /SPAN>Nag Nag9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommendFlowers 2.1 andDiamonds 5.0 !
WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, installSecretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and willcause irreversible damage to the operating system.
I've used both browsers with no problems with either. I have used Norton Internet Security and Zone Alarm Internet Security. I have had absolutly no problems with Zone Alarm...but did have alot of things get through Norton.
It just comes down to personal preferences....not something to argue about.
True Julie, it is nothing to argue about. On our computer we have Norton, a pop up blocker, and some spy sweeper crap, and a few otehr things. Our comupter has never had any problem. I better knock on wood now.
