Rocky has been getting in the fire pit. We have been burning garbage from when we cleaned out the garage and some (very little) household garbage. He has been in it for two days now and he has the runs. We are going to cover it up tomorrow, but why would he want all that blackened and charcoaled crap?? There is nothing food wise in there. He is completely obsessed with it when he goes outside.
And now we have had two accidents from him and they have been disguting. I don't think there was anything harmful such as chemicals or anything...a lot of paper, cardboard...that sort of thing...
Not only the couple of accidents, but the GAS!! Sheesh, he has been killing us all night!! We have run him off twice but he keeps sneaking back! lol

Rocky likes it hot!
Ouch! A fire pit..that sounds painful. His stomach may be upset and charcoals helps with gas. You can buy charcoal pills at natural food stores. Charcoal "sucks up" gasses yada yada...should not be taken with vitamins because it also "sucks" them up to basically I guess the term is neutralizing.
Dogs sometimes eat grass too. Rocky's stomach may hurt/he may have gastritis etc.. Have you called a vet?
MPP Zoe does this too. She gets in our fireplaces at home. It's ridiculous. She loves to eat the charcoals. Nothing upsets her stomach so as far as that goes I don't have any problem or advice. I just wanted to let you know your dog is not the only one.

My Labs eat anything they can fit in the hole. Did you hear the one about the monkey? A guy walks into a bar with his pet monkey. He orders a drink and while he's drinking, the monkey jumps all around the place. The monkey grabs some olives off the bar and eats them. The he grabs one of the billiard balls, sticks it in his mouth, and to everyone's amazement, somehow swallows it whole.
The bartender screams at the guy, "Did you see what your monkey just did?"
"No, what?"
"He just ate the cue ball off my pool table...whole!"
"Yeah, that doesn't surprise me," replied the guy, "he eats everything in sight. Sorry, I'll pay for the cue ball and stuff." He finishes his drink, pays his bill, pays for the stuff the monkey ate, then leaves.
Two weeks later he's in the bar again, and has his monkey with him. He orders a drink and the monkey starts running around the bar again.
While the man is finishing his drink, the monkey finds a maraschino cherry on the bar. He grabs it, sticks it up his butt, pulls it out, and eats it.
Then the monkey finds a peanut, and again sticks it up his butt, pulls it out and eats it.
The bartender is disgusted. "Did you see what your monkey just did?" he asks.
"No, What?" replied the man.
"Well, he stuck a maraschino cherry and a peanut up his butt, pulled it out, and ate it!" said the bartender.
"Yeah, that doesn't surprise me," replied the guy "He still eats everything in sight, but ever since he had to pass that cue ball, he measures everything first."
As far as taking him to the vet, I did consider it because I was concerned, but he is eating, drinking and everything is normal as far as that goes. He is playful and doesn't act a bit sick. There was nothing dangerous and the fire had long been out. But I just can't figure out the fascination with it. We have it covered so he can't get in it.
I wish you could have seen him before we bathed him. His face, chest, and paws were black. He was a mess! lol
