Dog Breeder Website Turn offs and On

The thread by another member (Huronbreeze):)  has me interested in this topic.

What subliminal messages do you get when you look at breeder websites?  I love websurfing and checking out puppy websites. I often find the listings www.petfinder.org and other adoption organizations put more time in their submissions than the private breeders.

My turn ons:

Nice coats and rich coats. (like the pics ltgo posted)

Smiling faces (dogs smile to me. They simply look happy and like they are well fed and taken care of).

testimonials that are detailed with pics

information about the personality of the dog

Any video/media player attached that you can click on. I think the video enchancement is good.

Turn offs

Any dirt.  If I see the dog has been photographed in dirt. It tells me the dog might be an outside animal and the breeder keeps the dogs outside.

Any chains or control mechanisms.

Cages

Sadness ( I know it is personification) but some of the animals look pitiful. I mean really

The coat, texture.  Many breeders post dogs and it doesnt look the animal has been bathed.

Too small or too big.  Weight matters.

If the pictures look to staged or exploitative.  Yes, taking pictures of the dog in a teacup is cute but...sometimes it simply looks uncomfortable to the animal and silly.  A breeder of exotic persians here in Florida has a nice website.  The kittens are being teased with feathers and their responses are photograhed. That is cute.

What does everyone else think?

Love,

ME

I agree Tyson.  That's why on my site, i put up a whole page of fun pictures so people can see that my dogs are happy, healthy and fun loving dogs.  And that they are not just for breeding but family members too.  I also put silly captions under the pics.

I think what I like least on some breeders pages is

a: music

b: banner adds

c: advertising teacups and tinys

I like to see good pictures and pedigrees, something about the breed, helpful links.

I agree with all that has been said..I hate to see cages, dirt or filth...I look for seeminly happy looking dogs..with healthy coats and body weight..I dont like music on a website..it boggs my pc at times..and I cant stand spelling errors ( i cant spell either..but i dont put it on a web site) or talk of guarentees when it has no guarentee at all..I too dont like staged pics of tiny ones in a cup or beside a can of pop...I like to see petigree, pics and helpful information on a site..I have bought several of my dogs via a web site first..But I DROVE to see them and bought them after seeing them..not sight unseen...I also dont like to hear talk of teacup, and the like...It sends me red flags...
