Okay everyone I need your help.... So as you all know we are getting our puppy this weekend. I have 2 days left to get things in order. I havent had a puppy in over 5 years.... what do I need??? I know the basics food and crate. But I was wondering if any of you have had an products that you just love/need when you have a puppy. i.e. wee pads or a special toy that pups normally love. also puppy proofing things what is are good products to get to do this?? any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated.
Sorry, Beeper. I'm no help at all. I haven't had a puppy in like 10 years, so I have no clue what you need. I bet there's others that can help you out though.
Yeah, I sell pups, there are a jillion things to get and do. Do you have a vaccine schedule from the breeder? Do not take the little out/do not let him lick your feet/do not set him on the ground at the vet's etc. until he is 6mos old. Dogs w/ kennel cough can carry it in their nasal mucosa for years. Parvo is deadly. Get No-Go by pet organics, for after you clean up pee/poo. I like Nutro Ultra for pups, keeps the diahrea away, real good food, too.
LOTS of chew toys. Nylabones or pig skin. An old sock with a knot in it. 'Resolve for pet stains' for accidents on the carpet. I feed 'chicken soup for the dog and cat lovers soul' and it is a great food too. Natural. Might want to get a doggie tooth brush and tooth paste (can get it at walmart) and start him on getting used to his teeth being brushed. Dog shampoo (walmart). Maybe a stuffed animal (NO plastic eyes or noses to choke on) to make him have a toy of his own. Lots of puppies like them to sleep with and carry around. I'm sure there's more but that's all i can think of....lol
Thanks everyone for the advice! i really appreciate it. I am going crazy making lists of what needs to be done and I have such a limited amount of time. My b/f and I are going to head to wally world tonight after I get off of work. Keep those ideas coming!! :)
Here is another little hint which sometimes will help the little ones be less stressed leaving their littermates & mother. Take a soft toy with you and get it covered with the scents of his mom & littermates. Then when you get him home putting it with him if he seems a little stressed will sometimes help him be more comfortable.
When Oscar as a pup he just had Winston to play with. He totaly ignored all the toys. He just went after the fat lab. Have fun with the pup. I can't wait to get another.
