My cat got a steroid shot 2 days ago. Although it seems to be helping with the problem for which it was given (rodent ulcer), it's kind of made her into a different cat. She is much quieter when around me, whereas she usually meows alot. When she sees the other animals she goes nuts. I mean, she always hissed and growled, but she is really going overboard now (she growled at my shadow last night) and she just seems really paranoid and 'different'. Its hard to explain I guess. Has anyone else ever had an animal recieve a steroid shot and then just act differently? She is just really strange now.
My daughter was on orapred for the first 4 months of her life. Orapred for those who don't know is baby prednisone. I swear I had no idea what my babies personality was until just recently. When she was a baby she was so grouchy. She cried and whined all of the time. Steroids also make you very hyper and she wouldn't sleep. Steroids have the opposite effect on some people or animals and can cause hyperness. The steroids will also probably make your cat gain a lof of weight depending on how long she is one them. Steroids actually take a year to leave your system. Gillian was on them for 4 months so up until she was 16 months old we had to keep a close watch on her. They cause weakened immune systems. After she was off of her steroids if she would get sick and especially if she would run a fever she would have to have a stress dose of steroids only because she was on such a high dose of steroids for so long her body didn't make its own steroids anymore. In short, yes the steroids will make your cat act differently with a totally different personality and has made your cat grouchy which is why he/she is being more aggressive with the other animals. Your cat will be a totally different cat. Steroids are evil things, as far as I'm concerned from what I went through with them. Ansy--Steroid really fry your brain, I have been on and off them for the lat 7 months and am no getting the shots in my back. I found that the worst part was coming off them, you cant have anything touch your skin (it painful), and your nevers are fried, and everything irriagtes the hell out of you. just keep a watch on her.
Also Duke my golden had two shot of is allergy and he had none of these problems.
