I know this has either been discussed here or on another forum, but wanted to see what you think. Jazzy is hungry 24/7... but I do not want her to get overweight. I feed her 1 cup of kibble a day which I believe are within the guidelines for her age/size (min. schnauzer-8 months) . So when I am in the kitchen and she starts whining, jumping against the cabinets and slinging her water and food bowl across the floor.... (well even when I am not in there, I can here the bowls start rolling across the floor..lol) I have been opening a can of green beans and giving both dogs 1/2 a can at a time....
Green beans are a great low-cal filler - just make sure you rinse them off well with water to remove as much salt as possible. Another great snack that alot of dogs like is raw carrots - you can give those a try as well.
Jaw..I can relate..My momma dog even before being pregnant is a glutton..I have food down for them at all times...and even in their crate. And this dog is a stone pig...unsatiable it woul seem..I dont give too many people foods but planty of treats and she snatches them klike she never at in her life..I hope you can find out what is up for the both of us..Seems schnauzers are gluttons...Mine will eat any thing if you offer it..
i dont get it..She has a full bowl when it is empty and feed freely and still she is aggressive with the others and takes there treats if they dont consume them fast enough...
Yep, like Denise said, raw carrots. Like the bag you can get of baby carrots and they like broccoli too. I feed my dogs a mix of frozen veggies (with water to thaw them) in their food as a filler and because it is good for them. My first Russell is still a piggy though......lol I just make him wait until feeding time.
My sister has a dog that had to be taken to the vet for stomach pumping because the 20 lb bag of dog food fell off the shelf and the dog ate until it passed out. I've had other dogs that could pass up a pizza on the coffee table with no one around. Every dog's food drive is different, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with how much you feed them, they will always (or never) act hungry.
Jazzy is 8 months? So is Lilly. I have been trying to find a food that she is not allergic too. Tearing of the eyes. Anyway, she has the opposite problem as of this past two weeks, I have to make her eat. I may be changing to either Evo Innova or California Natural. Not sure which. I know I have acsess to C.N. not sure about the other though, must find out.
As for veggies, yeah I'd be careful with the canned veggies, salt is the preservative I believe. Mine get carrots, broccolli, cauliflower. My Sasha is a bottomless pit, so she gets lots of veggies. less kibble.
puttin510, Farley has allergies as well. About 3 months ago I switched him to Blue Buffalo Lamb & Brown Rice. I have seen quite an improvement! I know it is available at PetSmart. Here's their website if you want to check into:
