PC Problems

Well, I won't be on much at all for the next few days.  I am just so frustrated with this danged PC!  Something has it slowed down to a snail's pace.  If it a page loads it usually is taking 2-3 minutes & most times it says page not available & I have to then hit refresh for it to appear.  I have done a full system scan for viruses, etc as well as scans for adware, etc. and nothing shows up.  Next week my daughter's boyfriend is going to take my tower & see if he can get it straightened out for me.  So til then I don't think I am going to get my blood pressure up by trying to spend too much time surfing the web or visiting any forums.

On the upside, my housework will get caught up!

Soemtimes I wish my computer would mess up. But I actually got a few rooms cleaned today. And I also cleaned out my hall closets. I really need to get the bedrooms cleaned up.

Well, I have sent a bunch of emails to Earthlink with complaints left & right as well as a couple to Microsoft.  I have a funny feeling the problem might have been something with Earthlink/RoadRunner cuz for some strange reason (altho I haven't done anything to cause it) my speed seems to have picked up quite a bit and my email program isn't sending me the same email a dozen times and hours later than the date stamp on them.  And I haven't hit "page not available" once yet since I've logged back in here.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays OK!

Its funny you should mention this because my laptop just took a cr*p the other night. I dont know what happened but I couldnt even get it to boot up. I tried to restore it but it did nothing but freeze part way through the system retore process. I nearly had a nervous break down when it happened because of course I had the first 10 pages to my 20 pg paper saved to it and all of my pictures of the pups and from my vacation. Its a good thing my b/f works at Best Buy because he was able to use the computers there to transfer everything off of the hard drive that I wanted. Now it is with the nice people in India who fix HP computers for Best Buy. I wont get it back for about 4-6 weeks. Thankfully I still have my desktop or else I would go nuts without computer access.

I have had my computer for over a year and I have never had any problems with it. (better knock on wood) But it is a Dell. I have the 17 inch flat montior. I love it because it is like up against the wall and I have tons of desk space. I think its about an inch thick. And the picture is great. It didn't cost much either.

Well I spoke too soon.  My speed is a little better but still nowhere near where it should be and I'm back to occasionally have to hit refresh after seeing "page not available" and my email program is again sending me multiple copies of the same email.  ARGHHH!!  The latest attempt to fix it was Earthlink told me to uninstall Windows XP SP2 update w/the hot fixes that went along with it and then to contact Dell for their recommendation on whether or not to re-install it.  Well, I did the uninstall and so far no major improvement.  Oh well, eventually it'll get straightened out.

The e-machine people always verbally walk me through uninstalls and such. The computer at one time recommended a patch, and it made problems, the e-machine people said sometimes if something is working, it is better not to fix it. I just let auto updates install now. I also ignored an instruction about defrag, my friend says to wait until the machine is more full. They are great at e-machine tech help[and free, and in the US-not India].
Are you using Firefox as a browser? I bring up msn for a 2nd browser window, but it was way too slow, Firefox is about 4times as fast. They are both on the screen right now. [Zoe taught me to do that].

So far Dell has been pretty good giving step-by-step directions & if I'm not sure I just send them an email & they'll clarify it for me. I don't have Firefox (I don't think) and I don't have the foggiest idea how to do 2 browers like you do - that's why I had to save some of my favorite smilies from that site to a word doc & save it on my desktop. I find when I'm on this site if I minimize it and go out to another site this one closes on me. I'm really not very computer literate but I usually manage to get by some how!

I learned about Firefox from the forum I use. Most people are more computer savvy than I.
I need to learn to save things to the desktop like you, for some really cool smileys/clip art.
The Firefox download is free. It does take over the mail and filter it some, so ask your Dell people if that is ok, but once my machine got adjusted, I recommend it to everyone...No comparing the speed of other browsers.
http://www.mozilla.org/
Zoe taught me to put up Firefox, then push start again, and click on my previous browser, MSN. After I log on MSN, I reduce it's size, and move it over to the right side of the screen. Whichever browser window that you click on will let you work, you can put up 2 forums at the same time. I put uphttp://bestsmileys.com/pageindex.htmon the right side and that smiley site allows direct linkage, which the others do not[learned about it here, too]. So I do the Furum on the left browser window, and the smiley index is on my right, to click on that browser window, I copy the smiley URL, and then click the Firefox window, on the left side of the screen, to paste it into the post.

For some reason, the entire post will not come out, or edit...this is the last post entire...
My friend that works at Unisys[he is a computer guy in the top league] had me install for free the Ad-Aware program by Lavasoft. It is more efficient and runs WAY faster

I pm'd it to you Denise, this thread will not print my post...I do not know why, when I tried to copy just the deleted part, the thread showed up blank, now you know that a blank thread won't post, so I just can't figure out what to do. Why don't you copy it from the pm and see if it will post from your machine. This thread is just as bad as computers all are,
