Well today I had to go to work for about an hour cause I had no one to work that one hour. Well, this guy that always comes in at least 3-4 times a day walks in my store all bloody, cut up and seemed to be "drunk". I asked him if he was OK and he told me that he just totalled his truck and it was out in the woods a mile or so down the road. After trying to talk him into letting me call the police and get him to the hospital he told me he had a warrent out for his arrest. I again asked him if he wanted me to call to get him some help. he looks at me and goes "there is no reward" I just laughed and said no I don't want money I just want you to get help you look really bad. Well he went to the bathroom and I called I told them that I didn't want them telling him someone called. So they show up and just as luck would have it someone on a motorcycle crashed into the woods right by where he ran his truck off. Well the police came in acting like they were looking for the motorcycle rider but they were really looking for him.
I really feel bad about it all but the guy was in really bad shape and needed medical attention. I know he had a broken elbow, his face was all cut up and his hands were full of glass.
I'm feeling really guilty cause I promised the guy that I wouldn't call. I don't know him very well but I do deal with him on a daily basis, i've helped him out before when his truck broke down, i've hooked him up with a friend (which didn't work out LOL). I just don't know if I did the right thing or not. I mean he's sitting in jail right now cause of me. He didn't do anything majior just wrote a bad check and didn't go to court, not like he killed anyone. LOL
What would ya'll have done? Guess i'm just asking if I did the right thing or not.
The bottom line is that as a result of your calling, he is getting the medical treatment he needs - you never know - he could have had serious internal injuries that could have been life threatening. And in the long run he now has to take responsibility for the bad check charge.
Don't feel bad, Stormy!! You totally did the right thing. When he went to the hospital, whether or not you called the cops, they would've checked his id and stuff and found out that he was wanted anyway. The big deal is that he's alive and well because of you. Since he only wrote a bad check, they prolly won't put him away for long anyhow. Don't feel bad, you did what I would've done!!
I just don't like breaking a promise, I guess thats why I feel so gulity.
What concerned me the most was that he kept falling asleep while I was talking to him. He was sitting at one of the tables and if I didn't say anything to him for a min or so I would look over and he would be asleep, his pulps were dilated and he kept saying he had a headach. My mom used to be a paramedic and told me awhile ago that they could be signs of a concussion. When I was talking to the police they said that the truck was in really bad shape and they are suprized he walked away. They said it flipped at least once.
I just wish he would have let me call at least 911 he could have at least been taken away in a ambulance instead of cuffed and in a back of a police car. But, they were taking him to the hospital first, they asked me how he was acting and I told them then they decided it would be best to take him to the hosptial first.
Oh, Stormy!! You've got such a good heart!! One day, I'm sure he'll thank you for saving his life. I'm sure it wasn't worth the choice of dying over a stupid bad check for him. He'll one day thank you, I'm sure!!
I think you did right. He may be mad now, but in hindsight he will come to the realization that you did good for him. He really probably already knows that. He could have had internal bleeding and had he gone to sleep, he may have never awoke.
How is this guy now, and did they ever find the motorocycle rider? Was it related?
I have no clue how he is. He told me he would stop in when he could. As for the motorcycle rider I have no clue about that either. I haven't seen the officers that came in yesterday, and the ones that did come in today didn't know anything about it. Different officers on the weekend.
Well, you don't know what was going on, maybe he hit the motorcycle, and they both went off the road. If the guy had died there in your place, you would have been liable for not getting him help. I would not admit to anyone that you had a hand in the police showing up. Not that it is a secret, just something better not to talk about, so the guy doesn't take it the wrong way. He may be out on bail, real soon...I would just ask him what happened when you see him, and let him tell the story. He undoubtedly had at least a concussion. You done good...
