I emailed Customer Support about the editing problems and also about the slow page loading.   This was their response:

Sorry about that-- there was a bug in some new security code we added.
It should be possible to edit posts again now.

I can't think of any reason the new comment page would be served more
slowly by our servers than any other-- if might have to do with the
advanced editor, which is an ActiveX component your browser needs to
launch. You could try disabling the editor-- that might help.
