I need a new job........lol As some of you know, i am a farrier (trim horses hooves) and a few days ago i had my foot stepped on by a horse and even with my steel toe boots, it turned black and blue. Well, last night (it is 3 am....lol) I trimmed another horse and got it stomped on again! Now it is VERY black and blue and i have a huge goose egg on the top of my foot. I was told to go to urgent care but they were closed by 8 pm so i had to go to the ER for X-rays. All the nurses and the dr.s were positive it was broken but amazingly, the X-rays showed it is not broken! Not even cracked! It sure looks and feels like it though....lol So now i am going to get some sleep. At least my hubby is taking the day off because since he had to take me, he has gotten no sleep. It will be nice to spend some time with him even though i am in pain...hehe
Oaisis...Yes..Try to enjoy the day with hubby...maybe he will wait on you hand and foot..lol..im sorry to joke with you while your in such pain...lol..I would think about getting a less dangerious job like maybe crocadile bather or bomb defuser..lol..you might have a better chance of not getting hurt...lol..I feel for you...you might want to explain to the horses early on that your feet are for you to walk on..not them...Take care..keep it up and soak it too...feel better soon...
Ouch!! Hope your foot feels better today. Horses can do some damage to feet.LOL!! I remember when my sisters horse stepped on mine and broke 3 toes. I was walking funny for a while.
You should invent some sort of hooving boot shoe for the ferrier. Did your steel toe bend into your foot. The thought of that happening is scarey. Then not being able to remove it. Hows that foot. Think an epsom salt bath would help?
It still hurts today and still huge and purple but i am sooooo glad it is not broken.
Puttin- I since have found out that there IS a metal cover that laces into the shoe that covers the whole top of the foot. My hubby is going to ask at work since he works in a metal shop and they can get them there. I checked the shoe to see if the metal was bent because right after it happened, the boot suddenly felt tight so i worried that it bent into my foot but it was only tight because of the swelling. The steel in the boot is rated high so it is supposed to withstand massive weight and pressure but i was freaked and wanted to check anyway.....lol It didn't damage the boot at all.
Hope it's feeling better today. I'm sure in your line of work you get stepped on and bitten a lot. I grew up around horses. I never envied the farrier.
