I had heard a new pet store opened in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.. Of course I had to check it out. I walked in and I was in shock. Three had to be at least 30 puppies in there. Stacked cages, penned kid pools. I had never seen so many puppies in one spot in my life. One poor little white possible malt or mix was sitting there so calm, a couple looking at it. after I say is it a full breed mix, just to say something, they say its sooo calm, I said thats not always a good thing. I walked around a little and just blurted out to them I am just shocked at how many puppies are here, where did they get them from a BYB. The gal with her man almost looked like she sort of understood. I left there with such a sad sad feeling. Those poor pups need homes but buying them means they will buy more to sell. That poor pup was crying like my pup did when I first got her, But I would not allow her to cry for very long. I can't take listening to that, its heart breaking. I can still hear it, tiny little Wooo wooo wooo wooo , Oh god I can't stand it. If you live near there check it out. Give them a piece of your mind too.
Oh..that is so sad. It is like a never ending battle...if you buy them, they make money. If you don't buy them, they have to stay locked up in that horrible place. I don't know what the answer is!
i agree thats you cant win for losing in this situation. maybe getting petitions going for stricter rules governing pet shops and puppy mills would be a start. when the government starts cracking down on them i think they will listen .if they were forced to abide by strict laws and price caps .their profit would drop way down and so would their shabby business practices. they dont care about the animals health or living conditions, its all about money to these scum. when they are forced to provide the right care for the animals and are limited on the selling price, the cost of care will increase and the money they make will be less.the profit margin wont be worth running their business. the case will be closed and so will they. i know there are enough animal lovers out there that would sign a petition that is for the betterment of animals
This is exactly why i try to stay away from places like that. for the simple reason is that it breaks my heart to see them in there, but i know that by buying a puppy i'd only be contributing to the puppy millers and bybs. it's awful!
Puttin,Just reading that brought tears to my eyes.Your description of the pitiful cry.We don"t have any pet stores here that sell dogs, thankfully. When I go to the shelter ,I leave so sad.
I torture myself with the things I do. I was soooo sad after leaving there. I think seeing things and knowing they are there is better for you than just hearing about them. I always thought Lilly was cute when she did her little woo woo wooooo cry, I always picked her up. I still play with her saying that. Now it will never be the same. I think it would help to have people get to signing petitions. Many would go for it.
I had ran across a website one day that has flyers that can be printed and distributed in front of pet stores. That would be great to do.I don't remember the site, and I cleaned my favorites. If I run across it again I will post a link.
