In 5 months it will be 3 years that Elvis has been at this shleter.  As some of you know, we have tried to adopt him several times. At first there were excuses given by the owner about our fence and stuff.......so we had it looked at and couldn't find any problems.....and then the road we live on was deemed ot be too busy.  He wouldn't return our calls after that.  We have now had all new fences installed, and he still wont return a call or an email. 


I still go back every once in a while to see if Elvis is still there......waiting on his forever home.  I just wish it could be ours.

Ok, find a friend with the "perfect" home to adopt him for you so the shelter will not know.  Don't let him get away Ansy.  He is still there waiting for you!  GO GET HIM!!!.......lol

that doesnt make sense them not letting you adopt him. if he's been there that long it is obvious he needs a home very badly. maybe someone there just wants to keep him . do you have any other way to contact them ? maybe it would help if members of this forum would email and put in a good word for you !....dusty

Ansy...what a interesting looking dog..i hope it all works out and you can get him or get some one else to get him...that is way too long to be in a rescue...no wonder they are closing up and adopting out and not accepting in...They have no room for new ones if you keep the old ones for 5 yrs...thats just nuts..The dog deserves to have a perminent family...and that is no way to live life..I wish you luck...

I hope you get him! I agree with Oasis, find someone to do it for you.


I used to have a dog that looked alot like him, did they say he was mixed with bassett? Long body with very short legs!

To be honest with you, an older dog, with his conformation, looks like a medical bill waiting to happen[spine/paralysis].
My next thought was the same as the others, get someone else to try to get him out, then give him to you.
He's a cutie, but something is wrong there.
Do you suppose someone at the shelter keeps him there rent-free? Or is something wrong that they fend off adoptions, yet pretend he is available?
Have a local paper do a story on him. "The mystery of Elvis" and try to get them to fess up.

I e-mailed that guy Cody. He said Elvis is still available, but they only adopt locally. I'm in NY or I would go get him for you. Here is a c&p of his e-mail:


 


hi - elvis is still available - elvis has and thinks hes a big dog - but unfortunatly he is a small dog - he loves people and female dogs - but depends on males wether he will get along - he is also an escape artist and will dig to get out - where are you located - we are in nashville,tn and only adopt out locally - do you own your own home - and what area do you live in - we do a home inspection prior to adotping - our adoption fee is $100 which includes neutering - all shots - rabies - groomed on the day of adotion - and 50 lbs of dog food to get you started - let me know if you need more information - cody - director - happy endings animal rescue

Aww, what a cutie.  definetly an interesting looking dog, lol.  well i hope things work out, and that you're somehow able to get him.  it doesn't make sense that they won't allow you to adopt him if he's been in there for so long....well i'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Sarahg, it kills me that he returned your email and not mine.  I emailed him the same day I posted this here and haven't heard from him.


You know......the bad part is that he's not even giving us a chance.  Ok, our last fence was old......maybe he saw something wrong that we didn't......but we've torn the old fence down and had all new fence put back up.  We also just had concrete dog runners installed undeerground today to keep them from digging out (like Piper was doing).


It looks like, with everything being re-done, that he'd at least come out and look again. 


I am trying to get my mother-in-law to see about adopting him.  She doesn't live in the same county so I don't know if he will go for that or not.  We'll see.


The crusade for Elvis continues..........

I went and checked the posts that you have posted and everyone of them has responses. Sometimes (not as much as I should! lol) if I do not have anything to add, I just wait for others to post.
