I'm just not seeing what exactly it is that they have to b*tch about. They're driving brand new cars, going 20 mph below the speed limit while doing so, and most definitely have enough money to pay full price for everything. Plus many of them have "vacation homes" in FL, AZ, and TX, what are they b*tching about??? I'm just not getting what it is that they have to complain about!! Yes, they have worked most of their lives, but don't you think we will have too when we get that age?? And we'll be getting LESS. That's my point. They should be grateful for what they have instead of whining about not having enough of it. They've been thru the depression for crying out loud, they complain when we throw away 2 bites of meat, but they complain they have to pay full price for a perm when you know darn well they can surely spare the extra $3 that it costs everybody else. WTH??? They should be grateful for that new motor home and their 3 month long trips to FL every winter. That's what chaps my butt!!

Being a Senior means you become as tight as bark on a tree with every buck you have and sit around with other Seniors and compare who got the best discount of the day and how you have no shame in asking for it.

And, oh yes, being a Senior has its drawbacks, too. You can't sleep very well at night because you can't stop worrying about how you're going to take it all with you when you die.

I thought this was a fun post until it hit the subject of seniors..I think not all senoirs are as you have protrayed them in a few posts..Now..if we would have sterotyped blacks, women, islam in the same way some one should have taken offence. I respect senors...I would trade all that i have to have my Mother back with me one more day...but she dies 19 years ago at age 65...Not only did she only collect her well deserved (paid in all her adult life to Social Security) and only collected for 6 months..but she only got about 500 bucks and she was suposed to live well on ALL THAT MONEY!  If Older people have things and I dont begrudge them a thing..They have lived though the depression, World wars and the holocost and have learned to be frugal...I respect that..I have had to deal with it my whole life and i understand where it all comes from. I live on lake huron...no suprise..and it is an affluent area because of the scenic beauty...you have to have money to live there..But the old people we call snow birds are well off enough to go to Florida in winter...they probably bought the property when it was a song and in hindsight made a tremendious investment..Why are they chastised for it..Sure...they clog up our one lane roads along the shore..barly able to see over the top of stearing wheels..But they are precious and rich in history and US in only a matter of time...So..Say what you will..Older folks are to be charished...respected and reveared...They are a birds eye view of how our lives will be in the not so distant future..and as for socail security being there for you who clam that seniors are the all about me generation...why are they saving all they can and pinching every penny to pass along an inheratance to you...the unfeeling generation...Ive seen old ladys shop with only a 20 dollar bill to spend.. a few slices of lunch menat the smallest miracle whip...2 bananas...all down to a tee. I have worked for 9 years as a food service director in institutional settings. Nursing homes and hospitals..Mollie...you will never make it rich in that field. working at the level that your at now...get a degree..and things will look up..but it isnt any one fault except the big for profit corporation who owns it and milks all the medicare money and savings out of poor old folks who end up there and get sub standard care...Disgracful...I have had to sit at inservices and decide how to improve a old dying lost the will to live old persons life..I have seen co workers be cold a callus to them...and had a good friend later admit that she hit and shoved residents...Deplorable..And all because they are old...So..when you think of the social security that your contributing..dont blam seniors if you done get any..blame the ones who squandered the surplus when they had it..the ones who diverted funds and lost it in the stock market..the ones who can ok hundreds of millions of imaginary money for Tusinami victums and nothing for our old folks...seniors..many of them Vets who lost a lot more then most think of and now they are begrudged a section 8 subsadised houseing...38 dollars in food stamps..and the right to a discounted meal at off hours..Shame on you...Those people paid in to a system that was designed to build intrest and equity...and things didnt go as planed after they squandered the surplus..and if they can pull money out of uncle sames butt for flood victums they can pull some out when the time comes to pay your very own socail security..and then you will see that even with the cost of living you wont be able to afford all the things you might want either..so..in order to get your behive hair do or a nice shade of blue..you ask for a discount..so be it..by then you would have earned it..

I do have a degree, huron. In cosmetology, to be exact. Went thru school in 14 months and now am a successful hairdresser at one of the most popular salons in town. But I do expect to get more than a 10cent raise every other year for working my a$$ off in that sh*thole that 90plus residents call home. I totally agree, I have seen elderly folks in the home get treated like dirt, when they're the ones paying our paychecks. I don't hate sc's at all. I just am sick of the whining about ss not being enough for them, especially when they do have all that extra stuff, motor home, sports car, home in FL. I should say I'm not complaining about ALL of them, sorry. I didn't mean to come off like I was b*tching about all of them as a whole. I know my hubby and I work our butts off for what we have and so do our parents, and it just gripes me that we'll all have less than they do when we get old, plus the retirement age will be upped as well. That's what p*sses me off to no end!! Mine and Brad's parents are all awesome and have been extremely good to us.

I love working in the nursing home because I do like elderly people, as a rule, but just don't like it when they complain about things they should be grateful for. Even the mean, crabby ones that are never satisfied with their food are funny to me, because they'll never be happy with what they get so you can't win with them. They reallly make me laugh and I do appreciate them.

I have to ask about some thing you wrote..You stated that you have a degree in cosmotology...do they have degrees for that now? In the old days you got a certificate and then took a state licencing test..if you get a full fledged degree now thats great..much more to learn now i guess..And I was only telling you you would not get rich in Nuring homes since I know first hand..and I have worked from the bottom postitions on up..and min wage was 335 back then...and it sure did suck..But they ( corporation owners who run NH's) dont care..they have such high turn over that they wont have good wages...it a shame because more would put there best into a job if they feel better compensated...Just my opinion...thanks for looking
