Dog pregnancy test?

Is there a dog pregnancy test or do you just know they're pregnant when you go for an ultrasound? I'm looking into getting a second dog and the breeder i like said that when she went for the u/s there were no puppies.

I don't breed or know anything about breeding. i'm just wondering. i felt stupid asking her.

I have never had a pregnant dog but from what I have heard early on the only sure way to know is by an ultrasound.  As the pregnancy progresses and the pups grow you can feel them.  I have many times heard of dogs have a false pregnancy where they demonstrate many of the early signs when in fact they are not pregnant.  That sounds like what happened with the breeder you were talking with.

Thanks. It's not that I thought she was lying. I just didn't know how that worked.

Hi Sarah...what a good question...My hubby has said many time to get them to pee on a stick...lol..but that isnt happening yet to my knowledge..but it needs to be..I had xrays 2 times to determine how many pups there were reciently...and both times were odd ..The first i bred my Black Schnauzer (which we have sence sold) and she had a false pregnancy or absorbed the pups...vet can tell which...and Minnie had pups...5 to be exact when the xray showed none...showed poop on the xray but no pups..so...i still scratch my head..I dont know if i would do it again...but i truely wish the tests were better and more full proof to be able to tell...Id be willing to invest if some one wants to invent one thats for sure..lol...any way...good question Sarah...

Usually, you don't want to spend too much money on that sort of thing. Having pups is expensive enough. Unless I were worried about delivery problems, I would just wait the 2 months. Nothing happens, breed again, no biggie.
