Yeah, I want to know, Kitty!! I go to the one in Shakopee, MN. It's really fun and Brad and I have decided that we're going to dress up this year. We're even making our own costumes!!
Just got back. I am SO sunburned. I loved it, it was cool and breezy, and blue clear skies, today. The Imperial Knights did their real good horse show. Dressage, and jousting, swordplay and acrobatics. They are wonderful Martial Artists with beautiful Frisian and Andalusian horses....tight butts drive me nuts. This fair has a flushing bathroom, that is shady and cool, a big plus side[portapottys are just nasty]. Everyone was friendly, except a woman that got nasty when I tried to take a picture of her dog, it had a cool haircut. Kinda like a mohawk, it was like a bushy looking dog, so it make it look like a brindled wolf. As I did not wish the owner to bite me, I did not bother taking a picture. Would you get nasty, and say that you should ask for permission before taking your dog's picture? Personally, I would have found it a compliment. Oh well, I guess it was a real special dog [not]. So, I had a good time. They had lots of dogs and horses, that made everyone happy. I will try and post pics, I need the practise.
Thats funny how they said the only permanent festival. The one my boss did in Calif. was there for approx 35 years till they finally shut them down for not updating things. Management kept saying they would year after year. I can't even remember the name of the city they went to this year, but I know it was not the Corona one. Theirs ended last weekend not this past weekend. I can't beleive you could bring your dog there. My boss loves to draw attetnion to himself in any way he can. he is always trying to make jokes and wear funny costumes. I did not know you were in California. I thought it was Georgia. Anyway, anyone going to the faires, keep your eye open for a booth called Bullseye. Thats whom I work for. They keep ttrying to get me to work the faires, but I need to watch my dogs on the weekends.
They call it permanent because the site is open year round, for weddings, reinactments and work shops... The devore, or southern fair, was done at Santa Fe dam this year, it is in Irwindale. My group had already made plans for Crossroads, so they were not interested. About 10 of us were there. We were wearing swords and light sabers[3 were dressed as Jedi Knights]. Crossroads is more relaxed, and WAAAY less expensive than southern fair. I paid $9. to get in. Spent no other money all day. My friend bought a lovely eastern curved sword[live steel] for $60. I got a Chinese short sword there a couple years back for that price, and a Thai sword for $35. There were vendors selling food at prices like $2. and there were lots of nice crafted items from $2. to $50. Some of the most extraordinary stuff was in the $1-$300. range. http://www.trollsgarden.com/
Thats it it is the Irwindale , Southern Faire. Do you ever go to that one. My boss was less than enthusiastic about that one. He got stuck next to someone that fought over space, He is not used to having such a small booth. If he goes to it next year. They said they would stick the complainer in some corner.LOL. Everyone pretty much had to scramble to get a new location since the other one closed down. He's been doing the faires for about 38 years now. Interesting site you posted, I bookmarked it to check thru later.
That guy sells the most beautiful carved wood walking staves that I have ever seen, his prices were dirt cheap. We went to Southern Fair last year and the year before, well produced but expensive, crowded, and the quality of period goods is higher, and sold cheaper at Crossroads. Although the artwork, and jewelry can be both xxhigh caliber and relatively inexpensive at southern, if you go to the right vendor. We have gone to southern fair for 30+ years.
It is very elegant. I made one from a cheap black leather purse, that I used leather glue to fix 1/2 the black rabbit fur pelt on, the other half of the fur just lays over the top, and when you flap it back, a zipper opens the purse. I thought I was pretty clever when I made it.
That sounds cool. Oh, I also have a rabbit fur pouch that he made. he has sooo many different things. If ya wan to see it, let me know. Also a brown leather pouch for hubby.
