For those of you with cats, do you let them jump up on the kitchen counters?
When I had Just Isabelle I wouldnt let her jump on the kitchen counter, everything else was ok by me. My boyfriends cat jumps up on the counters all the time, he used to let him go wherever he wants. He will go in the sink and start licking the dishes. I just dont know about letting him do this. Everytime i have caught him i put him on the ground.
Also when i eat food I trained Izzy to leave me alone, but he use to let his cats sniff the plates, if you leave food on the counter they will eat from the plates too! I dont like this! I made sure Izzy never did this, its bad enough having dogs beg for food but then to have cats stick their faces in your food when your trying to eat bugs me. What do you all think?
Personally I don't like any animal on the counters. My sister has a Chi. that will jump on hers if you aren't paying attention. And I hate that. But I really don't know what you would do to get them to stop.
I have never been able to keep my cat off the counters! I don't worry about it at all...unless we have company and then I act like that I try to keep them off...lol..don't want anyone grossing out...lol
lol Jaw! I wouldnt normally mind but when im cooking i hate it when they jump up and attempt to step over all the food.
I just caught his cat on the top of the fridge, i keep lots of stuff up there, so i squirtted him with the water sprayer and he jumped off, i think that should work!
I hate animals on counters....mainly because of the food issue you were talking about.
We were at my moms for the holiday and my future MIL was there and the cats were on the bar walking around the food and our drinks. When I acted disgusted and shooshed them away I got the devil look from my mother! Too bad...that is so rude!! lol
As Jaw said, i have attempted to keep them off the counters but it doesn't happen! They don't go up there if i am cooking though, or all i have to do is say "get down!" and they get down. The main reason they go up there is because the kitchen window is right above the sink and they like to sit in the window. I dont mind it as long as they leave food alone.
O.K. Let me clarify so you don't think I am a slob! lol. If I am cooking, then I make her get down, but if she just jumps on the counters when nothing is going on, I don't worry about it... But yes, if I am cooking or have food out, I make her get down...lol I should do the spray thing, but she gets so much grief from my dogs, I don't want to stress her out, so I just put her down.... I know, I know... she is spoiled! lol
No Jaw you aren't a slob! I am exactly the same as you are about the cats. I figure to each his (or her )own. So you don't like it, well you don't have to live here with them and they are my counters and my cats and they are fine. Now kitchen tables are a different story.....they will get sprayed if they are up there.!!!!
Oh if I worried everytime my cats jumped up on the counter surfaces or tables I would spend half the day chasing them! It really only bothers me when I am preparing food or when they have dirty paws and I just washed the counter surfaces.

oh no. i dont let them on the counters. they got the whole house to run. my own cat phatboy doesnt get up there cause he already knows the deal but the two that i rescued are learning. i can hear them land on the floor before i get to the kitchen. i am just a clean freak and they dig in the catbox so they are not tracking any paws accross my counters.
Im with you dusty...i would have a fit if my himmys jumped on my counter or table..that is a pet pieve of mine concerning pets..they have to stay off the eating areas...they have 3 floors on which to inhabit and if they must get on my counters or table..id spray or swat them off...eventually if your consistent they will get the idea...I had cats in the past who did it and althought i hated it i didnt get them to stop..i was not home as much then and they ran willy nilly through the place. But since I started having huimmys and persians..no...have no problem.
