How many people use raised food bowls so your dogs arnt eating from a bowl on the ground? And is this really important?
Syd and Winnie eat out of one, but Lana doesnt. Its actually pretty ugly, the one i have, and gets pretty gross. I kind of just want to toss it. Is it really better for them to eat out of a raised dish? Thanks
I've heard both yes and no on this one. I'm pretty sure I've heard that one of the contributing factors in bloat is having raised bowls. But I don't know how "at risk" your dogs are, so I dont' know if eating from raised bowls applies to them with the risk factor. I do know that it applies to dobies and greyhounds and great danes and other dogs with large chest cavities. I dont' know how big your doggies are, so I guess I'm not much help. Sorry!!
That plant stand idea is one I would use. I have a stand that was actually used to hold one of those floating water candles. Its metal and works great. Very similar to the taller palnt stand. My dog is not too tall though. But when i see those stands thats what goes thru my head. Doggie buffet. LOL
Is it not a good idea to use a raised food and water dish for my dobie
i have heard of the bloat thing before but never heard it linked with high food dishes.. i was going to get Harvey one as he always looks uncomfortable eating from the floor and i have also heard it can strain their backs...
I have a Great Dane and as you know they have a very high risk to bloat. I really don't think the raised or not raised is really a factor to bloat. But I think it is mainly a stress thing.
Like I said before, that is what I think I've heard. I know I've heard something about raised food bowls, whether or not they're a risk, I don't remember. I think I read it while visiting a doberman rescue site, but can't remember what one, I visit soooo many all the time. Sorry if I confused anyone!!
I have heard that they use to think that raising the bowls would help with bloat...now I have read that they think raises the bowls CAUSES the bloat... sounds like they really do not know!
ok..........i heard any dog with a narrow chest cavity needs a raised bowl...........lol My spitz has a narrow chest and she eats on the floor and has never had a problem. The only reason we ever used raised bowls while i was growing up was to bring the dogs higher on their toes so they don't become flat footed. Great question Syd!
