Question about Hamsters

Don't know if anyone where knows anything but hey it's worth a shot! (I have so much faith in ya'll)

OK here's the deal. My female has turned wacko! She has went from a sweet lil thing to the devils wife over night. Iwent to put fresh fruit in there, she bit me and tried to get out which she has never done. She spent all last night attacking the male. The poor guy couldn't even eat. She chased him around the cage all night long. I finally got tired of hearing it, took her out and put her into her ball then placed it where she couldn't run off.

Anyone have any ideas on why she is doing this? She is comming into a heat or something? Cause now the male is scared to death of her. He won't come out of his house. I feel bad for the lil guy. Plus hearing them two fight all night was extremely annyoing!

Oh so you havent had them too long then!  My fiances sister has chinchillas and she sometimes will have to seperate them when one becomes mean-or if one is being picked on!  Are you positive of the sex of them.  I have heard that its ok to keep them solitarily.  If he is getting picked on by her, I would seperate them!  Where did you get them, at a pet store?  Sometimes they just guess at the sex, so you never know!

Ah heck, Stormy!! Sounds like a normal marriage to me!! LOL, JK. I have no clue about hamsters, all I know is that I used to have them and they died right away. I also had some gerbils and they were littermates (both male) and one ate the other's head off!! Don't mean to scare you, but these are some things you should look out for. I had the gerbils for like 2-3 years before that happened and they had always lived together then one day, for no reason at all, Thumper ate Jack's head off. They had food so I don't know what happened, it happened during the nite. Maybe you should separate them, even if you had planned on breeding them. Just a thought......

Yeah I know the sex's. I got them from the Flea Market, just as bad as a pet store, but these 2 were at least hand raised so they were used to being held. She seems to be OK with him now. She went into his house and is sleeping with him, hope the poor guy doesn't have a heart attack when he wakes up and see's her in there too!

They are noctournal arnt they?  She will probably tend to be more aggresive towards the night!  I would keep another cage near by, for emergencies!  I hope she wont eat his head off!  Good luck-I would keep an eye on those 2!!
