Sorry, but just had to share. I just got home from my parents. He is doing great and just about back to his silly self! They did drain some fluid today from between the lung and ??? I don't know?! lol Whatever, it is all good. He was up walking around. Looks a bit like Frankenstien at the moment though! They took a vein out of his forearm....there has to be like 50 staples down his arm....so he tells the doc that he kind of likes that look and ask for some on the other arm. Said when he goes out riding and hits the bars it will really freak people out!! lol See...he is back to himself!!
Actually, he said he is done smoking and to me that is a huge step for him. He is not a big drinker so that really isn't an issue...but red meat is. I just hope he can stick to his guns with the smoking issue. Time will tell.
I should be in bed, normally I can sleep in a little, but for the next two weeks I have to be up way too early for me!! lol But I am like all excited about my dad, can't sleep! I should have stayed longer. My brother bought a new motorcycle and showed up around 11:00 tonight. He is probably still there.
I thank each and everyone of you for all your support and kind words, I know I didn't always respond, but I read them and it all means a lot!!!!!! It is nice to have somewhere to go and share things like this. I am not really one for "girlfriends" so I never have anyone to just call and vent! lol
Glad he is doing well. Make sure the other family members don't smoke around him, so he can stay with his plan. Cigarrettes are so highly addictive, they will be like little voices calling from the box to him...
Red meat, if it is lean, should be ok. He has lost blood, so it will likely help. Get a gas grill and bbq it to get all the fat out. No salt...
(ok. went to post and said the administrator had banned my IP address!!?? Then it worked lol)
Anyways, Thanks Kittys Mom for you advice. I know they said he could ANYthing he wanted the next week. Told us to BBQ and give him his fill of all the things he is not going to be able to on a normal basis. He laughed about the week of freedom, thought it was funny.
Sad thing is, my mom will never stop smoking and I am sure she has been sitting in her chair right in front of him smokin' away. He stopped for 3 years, but that was over 10 years ago. I am sure he can do it, just has to stick to his guns, ya know?
I think the biggest issue, besides smoking, is the cholesteral. (SP?) I had mine checked recently because it is a serious problem in our family, I just found out my cousin who is younger than me, she is only 35, her chol. is OVER 400! wow...that was a shocker. But it is a problem for every family member on my dad's side. Luckily mine was barely over 200 and my doctor said she will check it regularly and if it goes up then we will deal with it.
BLah...I have been such a babbler lately! Sheesh, Anj,go write a book! lmbo (Yes, I am talking to myself, as usual)
Oh man...smoking has got to be the hardest thing to quit, ever!!
And in regard to cholesterol, I had my 12 year old son check last week because there is such a problem on his dad's side of the family. He has cousins younger than him already on cholesterol medicine!
Was your son's ok then? Never thought about having Ty's checked, he is overwieght and on this big low carb kick right now! lol But he has lost a few, he is so happy with himself. I hope he sticks with it, I am actually doing it with him, but man have I cheated when he wasn't looking!!!! lol Cheating with things like yogurt though....could have splurged on ice cream or something!!!!! lol
wonderful to hear such great news about your father ! it looks like he will back to his old self in no time. i went through it with my mother. she is doing so good since her heart surgery. medicine has advanced so far that it is so much safer now. give your dad a big kiss and hug and tell him you love him everyday !
Alcohol has loads of carbs in it. Darn it. I have been having too much fun lately and splurging, Have gained a bit of weight and now need to tighten the grip. Low carb diets will lower the cholesterol for sure.
I am thrilled your father is doing so well. Heff you are like me, I never did well with girlfriends either, Its always been easier for me to talk to guys. I used to always have women snub me, I've had some that thought I was going to take their guys,So thye would just not talk to me at all. Never letting me in their group. Heck some women was bumping me on the dance floor once just cause I was there and I had done nothing to disrespect her. Once this guy I know told me this girl ask him if I was a b*tch. LOl He said no way. That was like ten years ago, but I still feel the same way. Its hard to get women to except you sometimes. They can be mean and evil.
I am older now, and I just don't care anymore. I keep to my family which is big. Go out with hubby here and there, and I am content.
