Lol, well...as long as you don't mind me asking, I wanted to ask you in a new post so that its not in the Dane one ;)
My natural hair is a light mousey brown. In the summer it gets really light golden brown. I had bleached it over a year ago, and after awhile, I got sick of the roots (I had about 2 inches of roots) So I decided to go brown again. I put a brown filler in my hair and then I used a level 7.3 Dark Golden Blonde to try to get it back to my natural color. It looked really good, but did have a hint of red in it, especially at the top where my roots were. I did this back in September I think...so I haven't colored it in over 8 months. Well, it has faded and I have a lot of roots since I haven't colored it in so long. My new roots are my natural color, and then like 2 inches after that where my old roots were is the golden brown, and the rest is very slightly lighter than that. Its not very noticeable. When I ask people, they just say that they can barely see my roots, and that the rest looks one color. But now I would like to go blonde again. Preferably a natural baby blonde. How can I do this since I have colors all over the place in my hair? What parts should I start with, and how can I get it all one color? I'm scared that my new roots will end up brassy, and the ends a lot blonder than the top, lol. I know to put toner after the bleach, and it turned out really nice last time I did it, but it also was just my natural color then. I wasn't dealing with color treated hair and roots. Any advice on a type of toner and bleach to use would be great also! Thank you so much for reading this! I don't know any hairstylist and going to a salon in my state is sooooo expensive since my hair is so long.

OK, well, you may want to add a purple or blue brightener to the bleach to tone out any brassiness. Blue counteracts orange hues and puple counteracts yellow hues, just like opposite colors on the color wheel. If you can't find any brighteners to add to the bleach, then just use a toner with a violet or blue base. These would be the more ashy colors. Or you could buy a purple (white brightening) shampoo and use that a couple times after bleaching. Before you bleach, put some sort of filler, like a leave-in conditioner on the ends, then blow dry, since your hair needs to be dry before coloring/bleaching. I wouldn't worry about midshaft of the hair getting too light, since that's the part that has had the darkest color on it, correct?? I'd put the bleach on the midshaft first, then do the scalp, then the ends for like 5 min. Don't want to put bleach on the ends too long, otherwise your hair will turn into bubblegum and you'll end up having to go to a stylist and get it cut anyway. lol. Just start where the 2nd color from the top (the color that starts after your natural "roots") and go down, then apply to the scalp, then to ends for 5 min. I hope this isn't too confusing!! It shouldn't take long to bleach your hair out though, since you're starting out with a level 7 on the ends and midshaft. Let me know if there's anything else you want to know!!
You're awesome, thanks! Kind of the way my hair is now, is my roots are the mousy light brown. Then midshaft its the same color, but with a hint of red in it. And the rest is the same as midshaft, just slightly lighter (if that makes sense, lol)
One thing I am worried about is the very first time I ever bleached my hair, I was worried about it getting brassy, so I used a bleach that had blue in it, and also a toner that did. Well, the end result was blonde hair with a slight hue of blue in it. No yellow or orange though! Hehe. I was told to use a small amount of laundry detergent and mix that with my shampoo, and that took it right out. But I don't want that to happen again. What can I do to prevent that? Also, to get the baby blonde color instead of like a golden blonde or platinum, what kind of toner should I use? Thanks again

wow Mollie! I sure could have used some of your advice a couple weeks ago! I just got my hair hi-lighted for the 2nd time and for some reason, my hair will NOT take color. The first time, it was like an auburn color (my natural is med. brown) and she had the color on for like 30 minutes and you could barely tell. This last time, I wanted to go lighter.....she had it on for 45 and you couldnt really tell. Anyway, she ended up using bleach and I was soooo scared! Its looking better though, not as bright! Do you know what could possibly be the reason for my hair not taking color?
That happened with my sis in law as well! I have *heard* that usually if your hair doesn't take the color, that it's not the appropriate level to 'lift' the color of your hair to a new level. Also, if she did not use the appropriate volume of peroxide, that could affect it too. 40 is the strongest and 10 is the lowest. Also, if you hair is super super healthy, sometimes it won't take right away because it's not as porous. My sis in law has naturally auburn/reddish brown hair, and we tried to highlight her hair with actual bleach and I'm not kidding, it didn't do a thing! She even went to a stylist and had it professionally done, and even they were only able to get slightly noticeable highlights. And a few weeks later, you could hardly tell at all. And her hair has never been blow dried, permed, colored or had styling products in it, so it's really really healthy and soft. I would be interested in knowing what Molly says about this, because I am curious as well!

OK, Hunter- you may only want to use EITHER a brightener in the bleach OR a toner afterwards, not both. Also am wondering what exactly is a baby blonde?? Is it like the see-thru blonde that they have when they're little and especially when they're out in the sun all summer?? There are sooo many different variations of colors that just a name or a "title" for a color doesn't mean a lot to me. Give me like a level or a tone or something to work from. On a scale of 1-11, 11 being the lightest, which do you want?? And I know that you don't want a brassy color, so I'd still stick with a blue or violet base. Just give me a little more specifics and maybe I'll be able to help you further. The reason your ends are lighter is because you've bleached them before, correct?? The color that was on them after you bleached them, has worn off, but if others don't notice, don't worry about it. It's normal for hair color to slough off a bit on pre-lightened ends.
Dleanne- Yes, your hair could actually be TOO HEALTHY!! And it could also be that you're using the WRONG hair products- stuff from the store like Pantene Pro-V and Suave. Those are the two WORST things for your hair!! Stop use right now and go directly to your local salon and purchase something for clarifying and maybe something else for your specific hair type!! lol Seriously though, if you're using store products, chances are that's your problem!! Store products leave a waxy film on hair, making it difficult for chemicals, like perm, color, bleach, etc. to penetrate the cuticle and get into the cortex (center of hair strand). In some cases that I've seen, the waxy buildup was soo bad that I could literally run my fingernails along the strand and get the buildup off like that, it would just kind of pile up, like wax from a candle. It was BAD!!!! So please, if you're using store products, even the ones like Bed Head and Redken that you can find at Target and drug stores, STAY AWAY!! DO NOT PURCHASE THEM!!! Even like your hairsprays and other styling aides, please buy from the salon!! They are much more concentrated so you don't have to use as much, and yes they are more expensive, but since they're more concentrated, they last longer too. Don't think you can't find an Aqua Net alternative at the salon!! Try Spiker Blast!! Seriously, it'll make your hair stand straight up, even if it's like 12" long!! lol
Does anyone else need any hair advice?? Or did y'all get what I just said?? Just making sure we're clear on that!! LOL
Well since we are talking about hair, and shampoos I guess I'll ask about my hair, and my daughters. I guess more about scalp. My hair is oily but I have dandruff, really bad and almost like scabs if I use certain shampoos including head and shoulders. Right now I am using thermasilk and it doesn't bother my scalp but most do so ofcourse I have flakes from h*ll. What should I use with oily hair and dry/dandruff/sensitive scalp??
Also, my daughter has like cradle cap scalp, she didn't as a baby but does at 4 and has for awhile. I used head and shoulders before on her because i read somewhere it can help that, and it did help. But it's harsh and she's 4 so we usually use kids shampoos. Any ideas to get rid of her stuff? Or is that a doctor thing and not a hair thing?
Thanks in advance
Nikki
Edited to remove letters from 2 words that others could take offensively. "c word and h word"
That may be something more like a doctor should see, for your daughter that is. Yours could probably be treated with maybe tea tree shampoo by Paul Mitchell. Or with Solve by Redken. Maybe even try those on your daughter a couple times??
Thanks Mollie. I will def try those shampoos. The head and shoulders did work for my daughter but seems so harsh so i didn't want to use it too much. Me I've used that neutrogena T gel stuff and it did work too but that stuff smells soooo bad!!!
So we are not freaks of nature? LOL Others have sensitive scalps? My thing only started happening in the past say 5 yrs. I thought maybe I was diseased but it only happens with some shampoos, so then I thought maybe it was an ingrediant that was bothering me, though not sure what.
