we are thinking about microchipping our frenchies. quinn thinks because annie is tattooed that she wont need to be microchipped. i think we should have it done on both of them. they never are out of our site but still it only takes a second for someone to nab them. we have had people joke about stealing them. and now i,m thinking it is better to be safe than sorry. doesnt the chip have information about the owners on it so they would know who to return the dog to ?
yes it has a number that refers them directly to you...but if they are nabbed it wont help..and if they are lost...no one will seek the owner...you have a unusual breed and very desirable....i dont have the answer...by me the dog pound has no readers...so no sence for me...good luck in what ever you decide on the issue
It is terribly important. I chip all puppies that I sell so that the bozo that buys them cannot stupid out on the idea... Home Again is the chip to get. AKC is available 24/7 to identify the dog. Most shelters have a scanner for HA, not the other brands... My brother lost a dog that was chipped. The people that found it intended to keep it[ours are obviously valuable animals]. A vet called him to tell him that with a check-up, the dog had been found to have a chip number listed to him, not the people getting the exam. The police went and picked up and delivered his dog to him...
Ivan is both tatooed and microchipped. The thing with his tatoo is that it has faded a ton. You can barely read it now. We got him chipped when he was a puppy, it makes me feel safer. I also put on his i.d. tag that he is microchipped. That way if someone tries to steal him they might be more inclined to think twice knowing the dog could easily get traced back to me. I am sure i am more paranoid then i need to be...but he is my baby...and he is worth a lot of money. I say do it.
I would get them micro chipped, all of my animals are. We were able to find my best friend's dog Jasmine b/c of the chip. I highly recommend it, I use AVID.
The CSRA humane society near where we live did a clinic, it was like 20 bucks to get Lola chipped and we have to mail in a little bit more (like 10 dollars) to get our address registered with AVID that she is ours, soon as we get to Maryland we're going to find another person who uses avid (since we can use the same program for both pets at a reasonable price) and get Tiki chipped. Lola has a tattoo, but I still feel safer knowing she's got the chip.
Micor Chipping is a good idea, but my thing is I live in the sticks, if one of my dogs gets loose it's highly unlikely that the HS will ever pick them up. If the micro chipp had come kinda tracking device it would be great! All of mine are chipped execpt Storm, she has not been chipped yet. I was advised by her breeder to wait til she was at least 2 cause where they inplant the chip disturbes muscle growth in AB's not in all cases but he said he has had quite a few and he also knows others that have had the same problem. So she will be getting one here shortly. We plan on moving soon ( to IL prolly GOD HELP ME IF WE DO!) So I may just wait to see where we end up before getting her done.
