Be careful when closing doors!

I know someone who went to close a door and their poor dog's head was in the way. He started convulsing and had to be put to sleep. I just can't get that poor dog out of my head. How horrible to know that your dog died, much less because of you.

One of my dogs stays at my feet at ALL times. I have nearly closed doors on him so many times. I have actually hit his foot before and he limped for a few minutes and he was o.k....

But this latest story has me sick and I wanted to warn everyone...just be careful!

Sorry about the sad story, but I thought it was worth telling so people would be extra careful before closing doors!

Molly is always right at my heels. I have closed a door in her face a few times not knowing she was right there!
That is sad, but we all know how easy it is for them to get hurt when they are under your feet or dart for a door. Sheesh, I feel so bad for the fur mommy.

I've actually shut both Storm and Winter's head in door before. Both times it was in a sliding glass door. But thankfully it really only got their muzzle not their full head. Storm wimpered then ran along like nothing happened Winter acted like nothing happened.

They are both at my feet at all times, they are usually fighting over who is going to be between my feet. I usually don't worry about them darting out the door, but when they do there is a fence to catch them.

I'm not sure if I told this story on here, or the other forum, but my aunt had a minpin that would follow here everywhere. Well, she put him in the reception area of their shop while she went out to run errands. I guess the puppy got out and followed her out to the car, and when she went to close the car door.... The puppy didn't make it. It is very important, I agree to always watch to see if your dog is following you, especially when closing doors.

Ohhh...that is so sad! I was almost mad at my friend for telling me that story because I just couldn't get it out of my head. However, it is good to know these things so you will be more careful.

Just like my dog that died when a stick was caught in his collar. Now I do not leave collars on my dogs... If they were the type that tried to run out the door or dig out of the fence, I couldn't do that, but so far, they don't do that.

my sister in law was closing the back door and caught one of the puppies tails in it.. It cut the tip of his tail off.  He was ok, and they called the people that were getting the pup to let them know...He had to stay with them an extra few days, till his follow up visit at the vet.

Good advise.  Sometimes they jump in the car and you don't even know they've done it.  A slammed car door could kill a dog.

Jawlaw, I totally forgot about that stick story! I remember hearing it way back when I first joined TP. That's so sad, I'm so sorry
