Ok its a hair question, lol, my mom is freaking me out so I wanted to ask you a question or two.
I have naturally light brown hair, right now i have blonde highlights on the top half. Jason keeps saying I should go blonde, and now that it is summer time, i want to too. I have an appt. tomorow morning with a ladie who has been doing my hair since I was a baby.
Anyways my mom keeps saying its gonna ruin my hair, its gonna cost a lot, im gonna have to go in every 2-3 weeks to fix the roots, etc...everything negative thing she can say about it.
I'm not worried about it ruining my hair I dont think it will, but will it?lol
And I was wondering if in the winter I decide to go darker, like back to brown, will that be more difficult? And the hairdresser said I would have to go in every 4 weeks, my mom says every 2-3, so which one is it? I tend to believe my hairdresser over my mom since this it was she does for a living, but my mom is trying to get me paranoid, and its working..lol. But I really want to do this.
Also do you know how long it usually takes to go blonde, she says she first has to strip my hair and then do the blonde, she says it will take most of the day, is that normal?
First off, believe your stylist over your mom-she's the one that does hair for a living, afterall. Second, you will only have to go in every 4-6 weeks, depending on how badly your regrowth drives you nuts and how fast your hair grows (most ppl it's usually 1/2" every month). It's not going to "ruin" your hair much more than coloring does. It does put some chemical damage on the hair, but that can be treated with a reconstructive treatment, ask your stylist if she would recommend a reconstructive treatment after the highlights, some ppl's hair gets more damaged than others, so ask. How long is your hair?? The longer it is, the more it's going to cost. If you've already got color on your hair and she needs to strip it out, then it's going to cost even more. There's more to the process sometimes than just doing the highlights/blonde. Color cannot lift color. I'm wondering why she isn't doing bleach?? Just curious, don't freak out, maybe they don't do bleach usually, that's why she has to do a color strip on ya. It won't be harder to go darker after you've been blonde, it may just be a shock to you when you do it. The only thing is, that the lighter you go, the more the color will slough off in the winter when you go back to brown, the color will just lighten a little where it's on top of the blonde, is all. It shouldn't take more than a couple hours to do the strip and highlights/blonding. Maybe 3 at most. I've done a few of them and it only takes me like 2 1/2 hours, and I'm pretty slow, but maybe your hairdresser does it a different way and has different chemicals than I do, I've only been doing hair for almost 2 years since school, so I don't know any "old" methods of doing things. Hope this helps your fears to go away!! Don't worry, it'll be fine!!
Thanks agian Mollie, Im going in a cople hours to get it done, but now i dont know what shade i want. I dont want my hair white and i dont want it yellow either, i want a light blonde. Do you watch that 70's show? I want the color blonde Donna has!!! Except i cant find a pic of her to bring to my hairdresser and i dont know what that shade of blonde is called. Ohwell
Now see I have awburn hair and when I was blond I had to do it every two weeks because the outgrowth showed so much. But My hair grows FAST! Maybe that is what her mom means. Guess her mom would know better then her hairdresser if her hair grows fast lol. Anyhow maybe your mom is telling you that because repete bleaching can be hard on your hair. But if your going blond in thew summer and darker in the winter then blond again that is an aweful lot of stress on your hair.
