Walking more than 1 dog

O.K. I think I have asked this question before. What is the easiest way to walk 2 dogs.

I looked at Walmart today and I could not find anything or any type of attachment for a leash to walk 2 dogs.

I bought one of those retractable leashes and I use it on Jazzy. She is the wild one.

On Hershey, I use a regular leash. He is so good. He follows me everywhere and stops every time I do, just like a dog is suppose to, but Jazz is another story.

However, it would be easier to not have 2 different leashes!

Well, what I did with Mollie and Chopper, without the use of the coupler thingy, was tied the two nylon leashes together in the bottom 1/2 of the length of the leashes. It works just like a coupler, so it always worked for us, till they bit thru their leashes one day when I had them tied up at my brother's for an hour!! Then I just bought them new leashes but haven't tied them together again. It DID work wonders though!! You should maybe just try that.

My parents have two goldens which they walk with one big retractible leash. They have the attachment that makes one leash into two. It works pretty well but it did take sometime for the dogs to get used to it. I think my mom got it at petco.

I've heard of leashes that are made for walking 2 dogs at once. I've never seen them though.

I have a real strong coupler, but what Mollie said makes sense...

I'm jealous. I have always seen people walking their 2 nice looking, well behaved dogs with a coupler and wanted to be able to do that too! If I tried it we'd be a walking massacre.

When we are going somewhere where I know Farley & Chloe are going to be real excited upon arrival I do use a coupler - it makes life soooo much easier.  After about 10-15 minutes I can remove the coupler & go back to 2 leashes.  It does take a little practice to get the dogs accustomed to walking on it.  We can actually go thru an obed. routine with them on the coupler now and it is like only having 1 dog with me.

I personally dont like the coupler thingy, since my dogs are 35 & 50 pounds, when they pull on the coupler it is just to much pulling for me. What I do is I purchased 2 of those training prong collers, and i put those on the two dogs that pull (Syd&Lana) Then I put a normal coller on Winnie, and I put normal leashes on them. Then I just take a walk with all three. I put the loops to all the leashes over a wrist and hold the leashes all together in the middle with one hand, so they dont have the full length of the lead incase we encounter other dogs.

This works for me and I can walk all three of my dogs at once, the prong collar is amazing and they dont pull me and the dogs end up walking infront of me side by side. I feel like I'm part of a sled team but hey it works!

If you have a hyper dog that is all over the palce and a slow dog a coupler won't work.  The slower dog will get dragged. Also if you have a male or two, they end up peeing on each other. I tried it and I know, my slower dog had such a frazzled look on her face when she was being forced to do what the faster one was doing. Couplers are very easy to make by the way. a few rivets, o ring's and a few of the clips. If you want, I can make one or find one for you.

Well- the coupler might not work for me then. I do have one that is way more hyper than the other one.... Thanks for all the great advice and tips!

I had the attachment for the dogs to be walked together lol thought it would be cool to walk to massive dobermans down the street together. What a mistake! It is hard enough to seperate two dogs fighting not to mention dangerous especially when you don't know one of the dogs. But when your walking two dogs on one leash and a strange male picks a fight with your male you cannot get your female out of the way because she is attached! Also it makes it harder for them to defend themselves. Their movement is not as free as it would normally be. In some extreme cases the only way to save your dog is to let the lead go and let him  or her defend themselves. How can they do that if they are dragging another dog with them?? Can you imagine the mess?
