I Adopted Delilah!

Some people know that I was hesitating on whether to adopt my neighbor's GSD. ....Well, she bought the dog from an out of state breeder, who I think was disguising herself as a puppy mill owner, fooling my neighbor who knew nothing about dogs. When she got home from getting the dog, she told me a very wild story The "breeder" had more than 10 different breeds of dogs, and A LOT of gsd's. They also had a lot of farm animals! All of the GSD's were kept outside in a fenced in area, roaming around in packs. They weren't used to people. My neighbor picked Delilah to buy because she was a beautiful puppy and her ears were erect, so she thought that qualified as a good dog. When she went to pick the pup up to take her home, the pup ran around everywhere because she was scared. This to me is very unusual for a 4 month old pup, especially a german shepherd! Well after the goose chase around the car, she finally got Delilah settled in the back of the car and my neighbor headed of to buy another gsd from another state! This time she bought a male, who was perfectly normal. When she went home, Delilah was very fearful of her new environment, did not like anyone, but eventually learned to like the owners family. After having the dog for a year, she bred her with the male, (which I told her NOT to do because she wasn't ready yet.) The litter had a pup who had two broken legs, and a curly tail! A curly tail for crying out loud! Sheesh, anyways now Delilah is about two years old, and my neighbor wanted to abandon her because of her tempermant and ear infections!, I do already have 3 dogs so I didn't exactly go looking for another dog, but this person was going to put her in a rescue, or maybe even a kill shelter! I just couldn't let that happen, she's such a great dog, all she needs is just a little extra love and care which me and my family are great at doing. So, after a trial of keeping Delilah in my home for a couple of weeks, .I decided to let her stay with me! I switched her to a healthier food, and POOF! No more ear infections. She is getting along great with my sandy, danny, and bruce, and she is learning to trust all people! My neighbor watches me with Delilah and think's I'm a miracle worker, you know it's sad, she gave up a great dog, but TOO BAD, she's my baby now!
Here is a pic of her in her new home:

And here is a pic of a pup from her first litter (which she never should have had, she is not breeding quality)

By the way, if your wondering what happened to the male, and the father of this cute pup, he died in the care of this irresponsible dog owner, he had severe hip dysplasia but the owner would not explain to me in medical terms how he died...and I may never know..

She's beautiful! Congrats!

Sounds like you neighbor has no business with a pet rock, much less a dog.

congradulations on your new dog. it looks like she has a good home now. i feel so sorry for the male though. hip dysplasia is a horrible thing for them to have to suffer through. thats why it is so important in certain breeds, especially shepherds, to have the parents hips checked by a vet. my sisters best friends gsd has been through a couple of very expensive surgeries and still had to be put down in the long run.   German Shepard

What a sweet face!  I have no doubt she will thrive and blossom under your care!

Hopefully her prior owners will never get another dog but I'm afraid that is just wishful thinking.
