I am so angry right now. The other night we got a very rude awakening about 2:30 in the morning of our neighbor banging on our house yelling and screaming, saying that our dogs wouldn't quit barking. (Which we never heard) He said that he tried to ignore it and he even tried yelling at them but they just wouldn't quit barking. So we put our dogs in their crates for the rest of the night. The next day(yesterday) I was playing with Kaia and she was chasing her toy when she started yelping and lifting her back leg. I thought she had twisted it because she was running funny. After a couple seconds, she started to act a little more normal. Then last night at dinner, the dogs were outside and Kaia started yelping at the top of her lungs. Again she was favoring that back leg and I had to carry her away from the other dogs. And again after a few minutes she was fine. Then today, it seems like it is every 5 minutes that she is hurting and is putting her leg up.
We are almost positive that our neighbor hurt her somehow, she was fine before that night. I am so scared to leave my dogs out alone now. He just moved in about a month ago(or less) and I do not have any other problems with my other neighbors. And none of my other neighbors have ever heard the dogs barking.
I do not know how to keep my dogs safe. There are a few days a week (2-3) where the dogs are left alone outside but now I am terrified to leave them. What should I do? I am going to put up screening on their dog kennel but how can I stop them from barking when I don't hear them at all? Any ideas?
The only suggestion that came to my mind on how to make sure you hear your dogs if they start barking is to get one of those baby monitors - 1/2 at the kennels & the other in your room.
It is possible that your neighbor did not hurt her. She might have injured it when you initially thought she did and although at times it feels better to her & she's using it OK then when playing she might move it just the wrong way which again aggravates it. She may need to be on limited activity for a few days. If it continues a vet visit might be in order.
Personally, I never leave my dogs outside if no one is at home. There are too many things that could happen and I would be worrying until I got home Can you bring them inside when no one is home?
If you would like to see if your Neighbors is hurting your dogs you can do what I did. If I was going to be gone for a short time I took my digital camra and put it on video and it started video taping the back yard.
Bring them in and crate them when they are unsupervised. Get a happy face on and go ask the neighbor if maybe he heard one dog yelping[gosh, I need help, why do you think my doggie is crying?] and not just barking. Tell him you think it's a coyote or mt. lion, and that you are putting a video cam on them 24/7. Ask him to please let you know/call the police if he sees anything or anyone bothering your dogs in the future and that you will return the favor. Make like he is helping you out. If he is not guilty of anything he will not take it as a threat, and will watch his p's and q's if he is the problem... Just start out with oh, gosh I'm sorry, but I think the problem was that one of them hurt herself, and go from there...
LOL kitty. the good ole reverse psychcology trick. they would definately have to be on their best behaviour for fear of ending up on an episode of animal cops !
