Heres a question for those who live in Hurricane areas ~its something i always think about when i watch the programmes on t.v when large areas and neighbourhoods are flattened and all if not most of your possesions are gone ...

  • Does everyone have to have a hurricane shelter in the base of their home or is it just a personal choice?
  • If you live in an area which is almost definately hit by all if not most of the hurricanes and your house is pretty much destroyed or some other major constructional damage does the insurance companies pay out to each case where your home is destroyed?... Does it make your house and contents insurance sky high or average?
  • And why do people choose to live in a potential blackspot area for hurricanes are you crazy  lol or just love living life on the wild side?

Well lets see lmao umm I love Florida and moved to an area origionally that had not been hit by a bad strom for close to 30 years but you knwo my luck three years there and BAM! Its like fate was ticked off I was testing it lol. As for insurance I had a mobile home and thought why worry when there hasn't been a bad storm here in 30 years. BIG mistake. The 28 by 60 mobile home was split in two on a lot and i was in search of a new piece of property. The house is NO MORE and I had no insurance on it either. Will I have insurance on the next one ? YOU Bet! Are the premiums a bit high? YES but in the long run far more affordable then a new house. The cost of living in that area is dirt cheep. You can get a 10 acre piece of property with a house on it for about 450 to 500 a month. Love that price and your taxes are about 200 a year thats without homestead exemption. Which if you own your house but not your land you don't want because you can always take your house with you. Financially if you get into trouble and your house is assesed with your property it becomes PART OF the property and you lose the your house too. Anyhow it is home to me and I sorely miss it.

OH as for the storm shelters no it is not required but it is a good idea and one I will definatly be looking into when i go home.

I just got back from Pensacola, FL and there was still so much destruction. I saw pictures of the damage in the first month after it happened and it was unreal, creepy like a Twilight Zone episode.

I asked my family there if they would move if it just kept happening over and over, fix the roof, roof gets blown off, fix it again, etc. My sister in law said that they almost have no choice but to live there because they own a business that has 60 years worth of established clients there. In another state, their business would be unknown with no client base.
