If Only I Knew .. I wish i knew that before .. Mistakes

Whats the thing/s which you wished you knew before getting your dog(or any other pet you may have) .. things that would have made it abit easier for you now when you look back on it.. or the mistakes which you have ever made..

To start of mine is ~

My mistake was not learning to NOT reassure him when he was scared .. it was hard to undo my habit but we got there in the end

yeah.  before i got my first st. bernard years ago, i wish i woulda known how to properly see if the dog will work out.  she liked me and i liked her and she was house broken, so i got her, and she turned out to hate everone and everything.  she tore up the house and barked non stop.  im sorry to say this, but im glad that dog is gone.  and i learned a valuable lesson from that

I wish I would have never bought a dog because it was "cute". Just because it looks healthy at that moment doesn't mean it is.

I probably would have been more consistent in using the crate...it probably would have made his house training go a bit faster.  He's just so cute though...I always wanted him out to play with me!

it would have made it abit easier for me if i took a plastic bag out with me when harvey had a huge knot of worms hanging out of his bum ...i though i was going to faint, puke but i felt so helpless and sad to see him like that .. he had never been wormed until i had him

It was his 1st worming treatment he had and it must have worked thankfully no re-occurences dut to on-going worming ..sorry to those who may be eating whilst reading that lol

Nah, worms are just doing their thing, they gotta eat too.
Some people are just clueless when it comes to pets.
Your kids don't[anymore] get worms, and why would you expect it in a dog? Moreover, one worming, how would you know that you need to do one every 2 weeks for however long?
Live and learn. If the teachers[us] encourage the students[them] we will all be better for it...Not all people that do not care well for their animal are evil.
I learned the hard way, every little thing that can go wrong, and control 1/2 of those by breeding my own pets, and only keeping, and continueing the best of the best of the best of the best...not a process I recommend. For the rest of you... Educate, and learn, as I continue to do.

Oh, Tuna, great big heavy cages[like I have inside the house] and bark collars by tri-tronics would have solved that...or there are even more options...[sorry on your recent loss]. Tri-tronics makes a collar called "trashbreaker", check it out...
http://shop.tritronics.com/trashbreakerg2.html
There are a number of collars, for a number of needs. Beats using a two by four, or ultimately, a needle. Do not take this in the wrong way. I have found them to be a used and misused item in my dog community. Just thought I would throw it out there. Being a dog psychologist would help. Being a normal pet owner with recourse to god-like aid...Priceless.
I have found them useful.
I have seen people abuse dogs with them.
Given the choice between shocking the crap outta a dog[once or twice, they usually get it] and killing the dog...well, depends on the dog... e-collars may not work...
Just thought I would toss that out there.
Let me know what you think.

I really don't know the answer to this one. I have been raised around all sorts of animals all my life. We had dogs, cats, bulls, horses, and goats. So I pretty much knew what I was getting into when I moved out and finally got my own dog.
