PD, red velvet has been a family recipe of mine for years. Sour cream icing. Needs French vanilla ice cream to make it perfect. Ralph's Mkts. had been doing a very good version of it, last I checked. Mollie, your heart was in it. I'm sure the icing that Mundane got had little to do with cakes... Good girl, he seems like a keeper. Oh, Mundane...
i have never been able to make cakes but we have an air base near us and a friend of my sisters gets the packets where all you have to do is add 1 ingredient, mix and stick in the oven ..to me that is heavenly and they always taste soooo good .. Happy Belated Birthday
I actually love baking. I can make on awesome Italian Cream Cake, but its really too rich. I love Red Velvet but I have yet to master one. But you just can't beat a homemade chocolate cake. I am also a fan of pies. Pecan Pies are my absolute favorite. They are not allowed in my house though because I can sit down and eta about half before I realize that I did.
Well sorry, PD, it's just a plain ol butter chocolate from Pillsbury. I don't care too much for white cake and have never had a piece of red velvet cake, I don't think.
What the heck is red velvet. Wonder why I'm thinking alcohol? Hmmmmmmmm Maybe black velvet. I love that song, can't remember who sings it but boy was it fun dancing to it in country western bars. Line dancing, that sure was fun, and you don't need a man to do it.
Red Velvet has a density to it it is like a devil's food cake with enough red food color to call it carmine. It has a sour cream icing, and about 3 layers. Honestly, the Ralph's market sells a real good one....They keep them frozen.
