sorry kitty. i cant agree with you here. the top three ingredient in dog food should contain a meat source and no corn. you can go to this site and compare dog foods and see what you come up with.you can feed the cheaper brands but they are also cheaper in quality and could cause health problems in your pet later on. go here and compare and find out for yourselves which you think is the best food to feed your pets:
this site is a little easier to understand. when you look at the ingredients in dog food the first three or at least two ingredients should contain a meat source. there should be no corn in the ingredients at all.
food Q: i have been adding tinned tuna to Harveys food mainly to try and get him as he needs alittle encouragement..but whats best tuna in brine or in sunflower oil?
I am guilty of using Purina Select Meats. Is that really bad? I gotta tell ya, I went through a lot to find something both these guys would eat. Maybe it was the pound food!!!! lol
Russ and I just recently started discussing the whole dog food thing. Rock does chew on his toes once in awhile and when I told Russ that could be his food he said I had totally flipped my gourd!! He wouldn't believe me at first. Actually, what he said was "Who the hell figured that one out???? That food causes your dog to chew his feet????" After we both stopped laughing, then he started listnening!!!
I gotta be honest, Molly doesn't eat a whole lot. I think every body in this house sneaks her food behind my back, even though I tell them not too. I don't think they can resist the Molly Eyes!
Well, I checked out that link. Purina seems to be one of the worse according to that. Hhmm....I am curious to check out the package next time I buy now. I always bring it home, dump it in the bin and throw the bag away, so I can't check it now.
They chew their feet when they are bored or nervous. Give them something more interesting to chew?
Canned mackeral[w/the bones in it], or salmon[w/bones]is better than tuna. It gives both calcium and vit.D[which cannot be given in pill form to dogs].
You know it does seem that he does it later in the evening when just laying around. Almost like boredom. He has a big old basket full of stuff to chew though. ANd during the day he gets out whatever he wants and plays with it.
It was a mod at another site who said it was an allergy to food if they chew their nails.
He only does it on occasion, but there are two things that drive me insane.....the sound of chewing on dog nails and the sound of a male dog slurping on his private areas! THAT MAKES ME NUTS!!! (Sorry, it really does!) Everytime that poor dog goes to cleaning himself (down yonder) I yell out "Rock, Knock it off".....and he looks at me so sad!!! lol eewww...even thinking about that sound sends chills up my spine. I may need medical help over this!! Mental help......ROFL
Ok...I have yard work to do....I am wasting my time babbling today!
Well, I would let him clean himself, just not if it were keeping me awake. Usually, you can tell them not to chew their feet, and it provides the same reactionbut they usually stop. Hot spots are from low grade dog foods. That kind of chewing, I would agree with the mod on...
We feed Ivan a variety of foods, mixed with every possible table scrap that is left over. If we have corn, peas, beans, potatos, spaghetti - whatever it is thats left over, we mix it with his dry kibble and he loves it.
For snacks, I feed from the Phantom Foods line and sometimes even buy their bags of food. He doesn't 'prefer' it over any other brand, I just choose it because there is no radiation in it.
I was told that Oscar chewed his feet due to allergies. Inbetween his toes the color was a nasty looking red. Like a blood red rash. And he would chew his feet like crazy. When I switced him to a Lamb and Rice food he know longer chews at his feet. And the red is gone.
